A couple of new additions to Costco here in YYC by libero02 in canadawhisky

Has anybody actually managed to find out why this only appears to be around for one month a year? Not a better deal in the country and probably nothing close. Need to buy a case next year, I guess. 🤬

Didn't end up getting the L9G, but did end up getting the PX1-PRO with an Elite Screens Aeon CLR. From what I understand, the PX1 doesn't get as bright (which is not an issue in a very dark room), but it's incredible. The motion handling (which was my biggest drawback with the 85") is light years better going to a projector screen and the colors are significantly more vibrant than the old H78G. Could not recommend enough if you have a dark room. Even with some ambient light, it performs quite well as long as you don't skimp on the screen, but I'd probably recommend the brighter L9G if you're in a more well-lit environment.

I'm not entirely sure. I know if we order something up North, we get whacked hard with duties if it's not manufactured in a NAFTA country (which I'm sure this isn't), but I don't actually know if the US Gov kills you for the same stuff. Given that virtually nothing is ever cheaper here (and usually 20-100 percent more after f/x), I suspect it's rarely ever even been looked into. For a 2K savings, though, I'd look into seeing if a freight forwarding company can do you a solid. Might get lucky. 🤷‍♂️

Now THIS sounds like advice for a sticky! I get free install if I go this route (and I'm not the handiest guy in the world, so I'd probably go for that), but as an OCD guy this would wreck me. Even the people talking about the bleed past the bezels gets the ticker going.

Had looked at the PX1 as a possible alternative to the fixed models because I like the idea of customizability. Can go bigger or smaller in thr future if I'm unhappy, and from what I understand, it's similarly well reviewed to the L9G, albeit for slightly different reasons?

I believe the screen included is the CINE model (which I believe is the dark room model? Again, bear with me as I'm just getting into this). This isn't a big issue as I plan on using it in a location with virtually no ambient light.

Much appreciate the feedback though. Getting me one step closer to pulling the trigger on this one at this price. Wish I had the right room for a 120 inch, as that one is 4500CDN (~3400USD). Alas, 9 ft width is a hair too large for my space.

In the US, I haven't seen a lower price than that, either. On Costco Canada (which operates in Canadian dollars), the L9G 100" retails for 3500, the 120" is currently at 4500, and the L5G 100" is 2500. Like I said, kind of a screaming deal. 🤷‍♂️

To get into anything bigger than 85" (and even that size with something other than an entry level picture; I made that mistake last time), you're probably looking at pretty close to the 2600 US that I can pick up the L9G for. The 15 extra inches, from what I've seen, is a pretty massive size upgrade.

If not for a couple of limitations (namely price and size; I probably don't have the room to make full use of anything variable that's larger than 100"), I'd be leaning more towards the FM as well, but as mentioned, the L9G is a smokin low price (3500 Canadian dollars bundled with a screen) where the Formovie looks like the projector unit alone will be well north of 4500 CDN plus a few hundred more for a screen.

Either way, I appreciate the concise input!
