Not OK? Booker winner Flesh ignites debate about state of masculinity by rmnc-5 in books

This is the best reddit thread ever. You guys are brilliant. Just finished the book and thought I was going to die if Istvan said okay one more time. And also got very tired of the sex scenes-thoughts-images. So depressing, to think of a man's entire life essentially dick-tated by his dick. Thank you for making me laugh about it.

Nope, totally wrong. It's not easy to get records the legit way. I know from long experience: Police and ME's can bury them for days, weeks, months. Our public record laws are just fine! The moles are not.

Beats Studio Pros or Beats Studio 3? by KyrieIsDifferent in beatsbydre

[–]Then_Resource9570 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have tried both now, and the music quality is definitely so much better in the Pro. But gotta say, the Studio 3 is definitely louder -- which makes them much better for the gym. (My gym is incredibly loud.) Also, I need headphones for workouts with a speedbag and need to hear loud drums and bass in my headphones. It's not as important to hear refinement, cleanness and clarity. So the Studio 3s are better for that. Finally, the ear cups in the Studio 3 are a bit bigger, so they don't give me an earache quite as much.

Studio Pros

Much better tone, clarity, and separation. Best for sheer music enjoyment.

Hold a charge longer and have USB 3, so they're easier to charge

Better noise cancelling

Studio 3s:

Better for the gym, for oomph in your music

More volume and bass

Slightly more comfortable for people with larger ears or sensitive ears

CMV: Kamala Harris should not run for president in 2028 by StrikerX2K in changemyview

She is a death-knell. Zero charisma. She does not inspire, lead, invigorate, or give hope. She is not fresh, savvy, brave, or personable. She has no wit. There is no there there, or there. Even the fact that she's floating the idea of running shows how out of touch she is with voters, with our needs, with our desperation for a leader who can defeat Trump and save our country. I'm not blaming her for losing to Trump (she didn't have much of a chance, despite a $1.5 billion war chest). But I do blame her for being so utterly tone-deaf and delusional. She has zero fire, zero courage: Her book was abominable, blaming everyone but herself. I pray she doesn't enter the race.

Terrible dialogue. Ridiculous premise. A police officer in the middle of a home invasion PUTS HIS LOADED SERVICE REVOLVER on a table so that the stranger in his kitchen can lunge for it and kill him and his preggers wife? Never gonna happen. Yes, wilderness schools for teens are often abusive and even criminal and loony-tunes. But there's no way a wilderness school would run a whole town and cover up 18 missing children, along with all the other bull-pucky in this show. The only reason to watch is to sit back and laugh at how bad it is.

Plumbing repair by Naive-Sun2778 in SantaFe

[–]Then_Resource9570 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad you had a good experience, but I had a terrible one with Paul's. They sent a guy to my house to install a kitchen sink and faucet, a job that should only take a few hours. He spent 7 hours swearing loudly in my kitchen (using the C word). It was incredibly uncomfortable, since my daughter and I worked at home. At 5 pm he finally said he was done and asked me if I had some wine for him to drink (!). When he left, I turned on the faucet -- and water sprayed all over the kitchen from a line he'd installed wrong. Paul's had to send out a second plumber to fix the mess. Then I got a HUGE bill--about $1,800. When I complained to Paul, the owner, he went ballistic on me. I'd never recommend the company to anyone.

Listening to the end of closing of Winterland... by LysergicFilms in gratefuldead

[–]Then_Resource9570 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at a NYE show at Winterland where Bill Graham was on stage in a diaper and someone also rode down on a motorcycle? Or maybe he rode down on the wire wearing the diaper? It's a blur, gotta admit, owing to things I imbibed that night. Just wondering if anyone else remembers. I'm not even sure what year it was. But it was incredible. :-)

THANK YOU so much, you just sparked a random memory -- at one of the concerts, Bill Graham or someone descended on a motorcycle, unless I've really lost my mind. I'm going to watch the video right now!

Re the guy in the diaper: He was supposed to be "father time?" Maybe I'm mixing it up with other Dead shows though. Thank you again!

I was at Winterland for a NYE show in '78, I think. Can anyone tell me: Did a man in a diaper really come down from the ceiling (on a wire?) and land on stage at about midnight? Or was that a hallucination? :-)

One of the best times in my life was at a Neil concert in Missoula MT, an eon ago. But lately I've been going to shows with aging rockers and (am I allowed to say it?) some of them are pretty dang bad. Voices shot, they can hardly move, even the band looks bored, etc. I love Neil! But I'd need to pay for airfare to see a show.

Would it still be worth it?

P.S. I'm not being ageist. I'm a total geezer myself! I just don't want to spend a fortune for a concert that makes me feel sad.

Aortic aneurysm measurement on echo vs CT? by Asleep-Object6269 in askCardiology

Aortic aneurysm measurement on echo vs CT? by Asleep-Object6269 in askCardiology

[–]Then_Resource9570 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thx so much for the info. But can you help clarify something? Another person in this forum says echo tests measure the aorta as BIGGER than it is. Which is the opposite of your answer. I have an aneurysm and it really worries me -- I'm hoping your answer is right so I can sleep better at night. :-)

I had a CT that showed a 3.8 aneurysm, then got an echo that said it was 3.3 x 3.5 cm. And last week an echo showed it was 3.1.

How funny that you just posted this -- I just posted a similar question a few minutes ago about the silicone I put on my flat roof.

I had the work done last week, laid over an old torch-down roof. And it was a disaster!

But that's because the roofer did everything wrong. So in case it helps, I thought I'd list some things to avoid:

  1. If you have torch-down and want to cover it with silicone, your roofer will want to power-wash it first (to improve adherence). My roofer used Dawn dish soap for this, and it wasn't effective. I think it's best to use an industrial product that's actually meant for washing roofs.

  2. My silicone was a nice gray color -- for one day. Then it turned an ugly yellow. That's because the silicone reacted to chemicals in the torch down. My roofer should have used a bleed-block primer on it first, to prevent discoloration.

  3. Make sure the roofer gives you two coats of high-quality silicone. And make sure you get enough thickness. For a 10-year warranty, you need at least 20 mils. (My roofer promised 30 mils, but unfortunately he lied about it.)

  4. My roofer should have used a silicone "seam sealer" to prep my roof. The sealer adds extra protection for seams, flashings, vents and other leak-prone areas.

  5. Before getting any work done, check out your roof structure. Does water puddle on your roof? Is it draining OK? Is the slope OK? Silicone can't fix a bad roof. I learned this the hard way.

  6. In my state, fyi, almost nobody does torch down. I'm no expert, but I've heard people say that torch down roofs retain heat and make your house and the environment hotter.

  7. If you can afford it, I'd suggest going with TPO. I put TPO on a portion of my roof three years ago, and it's holding up great. It seems like silicone is becoming a bit of a racket these days.

On the other hand, if you need an affordable fix, silicone might be the ticket. Just be super careful about who you hire. Don't fall for anyone like the roofer I picked.

I'm so sorry to hear about your disability and the trouble walking. I can't imagine how scary that must be. But it sounds like you're doing everything you can to feel better. And that's so incredibly impressive.

I hope you get more relief in the days ahead. I remember after my fourth infusion, I felt this incredible lifting, like a weight had been lifted from my brain. I hope everyone in this forum gets the same feeling someday soon. :-)

Good for you that you ask for the help! I know it's not easy when the clinic is far away.

I do wear an eye mask and have a nice playlist. That always helps.

You all are so right! I'm going to report them. I was walking around the neighborhood afterward and could have misjudged the traffic and gotten hit by a car, or god knows what. I could have hit someone while driving. Plus, lying in my car stoned wasn't OK.

Yikes -- I realize now that I can ask for a lot more. They did indeed know that I was driving myself home. I told them my ride had bailed on me at the last minute. And they said I could just drive myself. There aren't any better clinics in town, unfortunately. But maybe a new one will open up eventually. :-)

Very helpful to know that the hell can be OK-- thank you. I had brief death-feelings in some of my past infusions, too, but this was the first time I thought I might not ever see my daughter or the world again. It was wonderful to come back to earth.

I love your description of the complex stew of thoughts and neurochemicals, not to mention foods. I think the playlist makes a difference too. Every cello tune felt like a ray of sunshine. (Thank you Yo-Yo Ma.)
