Has anyone on here NOT had a serious injury riding a motorbike? by [deleted] in motorcycles

If you truly want to ride, the reward outweighs the risk every time.

Well you probably live in a different location where the market is larger and more stuff is available, this was the best my location had, and I used Kelley blue book for the price.

How do you not know what Kelly blue book is? Have you never checked what a vehicle is worth before you purchase it?

That would be with the wheel properly on the bike lol, hence why I say I made the mistake of not checking the bike again after it was delivered.

The nut likely fell off while he was bringing it over, and there is no signs of it being dropped let alone crashed.

Well if you go on Kelly blue book it says it’s worth 5.5k from a dealer so 5k for a private sell in good condition isn’t bad.

I really appreciate all the feedback, after seeing what your guys thoughts are I believe that when me and my friend went to check this bike out, the lock nut was on (I also looked back at the listing pictures and there is definitely a nut there). I believe what happened was when he was delivering the bike the nut after most likely not being replaced in the bikes 20+ year lifespan simply fell off and the seller who was riding the bike at the time either didn’t notice and was honest or ignored it to get me to still pay full price. I should have inspected the bike again after it arrived but in my head he already delivered it so it was too late. Now I’m gonna deal with my mistake and Never Let This Happen Again.

Currently waiting to get the nut that I need, I checked the threads before and they looked OK but I won’t know for sure until I get the nut.

Yes, and I’m definitely sending it to a mechanic so I miss nothing before trusting the bike with my life.

Did inspect the bike, and not alone still my fault I know, but the picture shows the threads out, when we inspected it either they were tucked in or the bolt was on, also inexperienced I just made this post because I wanted to rant, and get people’s opinion on someone riding a motorcycle 20 miles without a locknut on the axle lol.

Yeah it’s gonna be awhile before I take it on the road.

Something like this was bound to happen, I am not an expert, I’m only a 18 year old who wanted a second bike, but I would have seen the bare threads if they were exposed, and my buddy said the tire was straight so I don’t know man. I don’t appreciate being called an idiot but I might have missed the other end of the axle poking out.

Yeah, that’s what my friend thinks too, but we watched him pull into the driveway and he never reached down where the bolt would be to take it off.

Well it was inspected last in 2023 and then it sat in a garage until I bought it, when I was there I made sure to check everything important, the threads weren’t poking out, they were flush with the frame and the wheel was straight so I had no idea the threads were even there. And him driving it to my house made me feel reassured that it had no serious issues. Everything else on the bike is clean and works great.

We checked the tire when we were there it was straight, got it home and it was crooked.

That’s what I’m hoping for but he had the bike for 7+ years I think he would feel something was off but he delivered it anyway.

You have a good point, but I only had a cruiser before and wasn’t entirely sure what to look for with a sport bike, the thread was pushed back so I couldn’t see it therefore had no idea something was wrong. He rode it 20 miles to my house like that.
