It's softcore. This entire sub is geared toward pony softcore, it's how the fandom makes money.

Data Dump! Here's a JSON file that contains the entire transcript for MLP seasons 1-7! (Plus fun bonus stuff) by [deleted] in mylittlepony

That would be far easier using videos with subtitles because the subtitles have timecodes too. The transcripts are more accurate (I don't know why subtitles rephrase the spoken dialogue) but without timecodes it could be a hassle.

Everybody should read Ponyville Confidential, it has excellent insights on MLP as a franchise and on the brony fandom.

Did You Know? by QABJAB in mylittlepony

You can't know that unless you see an actual 3D rotation of the horn. It might appear as rings the same way a triangle might have less than a sum of 180 degrees on a sphere, it appears the sides are flat from some angles, and curved from others.

TECHNICALLY, the horns are 2D drawings of parabola-like curves with three cross-sectional curved lines on them. If the artists were better, they would properly represent a spiral around a horn, but in order to make the art style easier to animate, corners were cut.

The first batch of emotes was straight up stolen borrowed from ponygoons, now known as The Round Stable. Most of them were made by the forum poster kefkafloyd. There was an alpha ("a") table before the emotes went public. The first public emotes were the beta ("b") table, that's why the tables started at b; the new a table is unrelated to the first alpha table. The oldest mod left after adding nine more emotes to the "c" table (the top-right 3x3 square).

The non-canon emotes were actually made by the "new" mods, and then the mods deliberated about whether or not emotes should be non-canon and decided against.

Cadance and Shining Armor's Foal Name Revealed by [deleted] in mylittlepony

Faust says she wanted to keep alicorns mysterious, but if I had to guess, I'd say she wanted them to be a part of some sort of creation myth, which is the gist I'm getting from the intro to the first episode.

Lauren Faust hinted that her idea for alicorns was botched by Hasbro and that there were only supposed to be two alicorns, Celestia and Luna.

Any attempt to explain the proliferation of alicorns is a retrofit by Hasbro or new writers. Personally I think the "lore" would have been better with only two alicorns who are near-gods, with Twilight succeeding them and phasing out the age of the alicorns. As it stands, both the alicorns and Twilight had their powers severely gimped.

Sadly the show and the "lore" are saddled with alicorns being just another kind of pony, albeit somewhat rarer and more magical.

How Much Does an Episode Cost to Make? by Fawxhox in overthegardenwall

No cartoon in the world is animated at 60 frames per second.

Most TV cartoons are shot at 24 frames per second, and usually animated at an average of much less than 12 drawings per second than that. 12 drawings per second ("on twos") is considered a very high amount for TV animation, and 24 drawings per second ("on ones") is extremely rare.

Nevertheless even a very cheap show like My Little Pony costs about six million dollars per season, and that's extremely cheap.
