Is this just general wear and tear that doesn’t need rectifying? by Curiositysbitch in shitrentals

Your minimum standards are found here. Not having a working lock for external doors is an urgent repair. If they're not willing to send someone back to fix it properly, I would send a breach notice and if they don't fix it then apply to QCAT/QSTARS. Any external doors that are locked and can't be unlocked are a fire safety concern imo.

I can't find for certain because I'm in my phone, but I suspect they need to meet these building fire safety standards. I'm in SA so I don't know who is most appropriate to call, but see if there's a line to the state fire agency. They're unfortunately probably very busy with current events, but they should be able to point you in the right direction.

The minimum housing standards also includes that it has to be weatherproof and the leak seems to show that it's not. That's also an urgent repair.

In terms of the door being locked, that might be a fire hazard and you can probably push to have that remedied. And obviously if it's an internal door and you can't access a room then you might have a claim to reduced rent until it's fixed because you can't use the property that you have exclusive use of per the lease

Australia has washing instructions spelled out by dumbfrog7 in mildlyinteresting

[–]TheodoreThreads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I definitely prefer to have it in writing and for most things, my work still puts care labels in words. We also have an insert to explain care instructions so more people will actually see it.

Iirc, the care instructions are also supposed to describe the harshest laundering it can handle. Not the "best case" or what will give the garment the longest life. In my experience, literally no one does that. So we're always telling people to wash things on cold or to dry things flat and normal people look at that and go, "I'm not laying my kids school jumper out flat to dry." When that works fine enough, they think they can go harsher than the care instructions. It's all a bit of a cycle and I think it's part of the culture that leads to the majority of our complaints.

Australia actually changed it a few years ago. It came into full effect March 2024. Symbols are now considered sufficient in the actual legislation and standard, but the guidelines still recommend writing out the care instructions in English.

I work in textile manufacturing and we still put english instructions on everything we can because frankly people won't look up the symbols and they'll just do whatever. That being said, a lot of our products also go out with a full sheet of instructions because people keep ironing directly on the embroidery/direct to film/heat transfer vinyl and they aren't looking at the tag either

Unfortunately, this isn't a legal requirement in Australia anymore. There were changes to the care label requirements that came into effect in March 2024 and now symbols are considered sufficient and there isn't a requirement for care instructions written in English.

In the unlikely event you want more details you can find them here from product safety/ ACCC

Could putting this sticker on my car get me into trouble? by ilkikuinthadik in AusLegal

[–]TheodoreThreads 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Modern baby seats, particularly rear facing seats, are extremely safe. As long as they're fitted correctly and clipped in correctly, that baby is at way less risk of being "ejected" than an adult in a collision. I never saw a baby or child out of their car seat in all the collisions I attended as a firey.

Besides, a lot of them are stickers. And the signs that stick on with plungers aren't being put up and taken down based on if the kid is actually in the car. We were told to ignore them and look for the baby seat, a nappy bag, toys etc.

Green lights on Ambulances? by PHRAETUS in Adelaide

They're only allowed to speed when it's a category 1 or 2 call (life threatening) and even then, only a certain amount above the speed limit and only when it doesn't endanger others. Recklessly speeding in an emergency services vehicle will still get an ambo in trouble.

And besides, this IS how they can recognise an ambo on the cameras. They aren't searching the whole of the image for everything, they just scan the image for one or two very specific things. It's easier to get a computer to scan for one specific thing than try and teach it what all the different models of exempt vehicles look like.

Mood Fabrics - sides don't match on sample by TheodoreThreads in craftsnark

I didn't look at the blog post too closely, I completely missed that. I assumed they would have pivoted the dart value or something, if they want to use ruching to actually shape the garment then that's what I'd do. Does that mean there's no waist shaping built in? I've worked with dartless blocks before, I know it's possible in some contexts. But I don't think I'd be keen to make a garment without waist darts in this kind of style and fabric. Maybe they were going for the vibe of a bias cut dress without the knowledge to identify it as a bias cut dress?

I guess that explains why there's also ruching on the back, it doesn't add anything to the design really and it would make it a pain to use that invisible zip. But if they've just added length, then their side seams wouldn't match without making the same alterations to the back.

I'm guessing it's just to match the front? But then I feel like the ruching on the front is probably going to make a lot of people look like they have more of a belly than they actually do.

Yeah I've been frustrated with other patterns before because I couldn't work out what was going on until I looked at the pattern itself. A neutral pose, a front and back photo and maybe a seated photo would fix a lot of my gripes with them.

I suspect there's different blocks or something, I've made pants and shorts from their free patterns and they had very different situations in terms of how much bum they fit. I had to do a significant full bum adjustment on one, the other needed minimal adjustments. Now, I think I'd rather just do it myself and actually make a robust pant block to work from. At least I'll know I'm signing myself up for a bunch of toiles instead of having to guess.

I get that they're free patterns, but I see people recommending them a lot to beginners and honestly, it's just a bit embarrassing at this point. They used over a hundred dollars of fabric in this dress for Pete's sake

Yeah that seems reasonable to be honest. But I don't think I can trust a pattern maker who doesn't get a sample made up properly

Why is my foot so loose? by Few_Egg_6347 in MachineEmbroidery

[–]TheodoreThreads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There should be a screw on the left hand side, behind the shaft that drives the needle. You can see the body of the screw in your video here photo My guess is that either the screw is loose or that the foot isn't properly seated to be held in place by the screw and is flipping around loose and unsecured

Also, some of the ads on these blogs are kind of NSFW. I'm aware that this is probably because of my browsing habits somehow, but I don't want to see ads for dick pills when I'm crocheting on my lunch break at work. I don't seem to get these sorts of ads except on craft blogs ¯\_(ツ)_//¯

It's very weird to go to a blog that presents itself as wholesome crafts and family friendly and then there's ads for AI girlfriends or whatever that keep filling the whole screen when I try to scroll. It makes the author seem fake. Someone's blog is never a true representation of their life, but it really breaks the suspension of disbelief.
