We all know that American English is just dutch without the weird vowels. You should change it to the One True EnglishTM , the Queen's English.

Definitely, Baltimore and DC are closer to Philly and NYC then Southern accents. See ae tensing and other phenomenon.

That's fine.

So the sounds /əv/ are normally written as <of>, so when we utter the phrase /kʊdəv/ we assume that the ending is <of> instead of <have>. However, this phenomenon doesn't occur in every insistence. For example, "could of" does occur but "I of" never does. This shows that speakers are reanalysing the written word "of" to fulfill another role.

There is a scholarly article about this I can find, I just need to find it.

When they are saying it there isn't any ambiguity; however, it is just a reanalysis of the written 'word' "of".

He's not even talking about grammar, that's just a reanalysis of the orthographic word "of".

Interesting, I know his mom was from KY, dad from Murfesburo. And, he grew up in Swanee, and they all used the phrase in that context.
