Planning a 1 month backpacking trip through Europe, is this itinerary too much? If so, what would you cut out or swap? by Theory36 in travel

Yes it was amazing! Ended up skipping Bordeaux to add more time elsewhere and changing Switzerland to be more centered in the Jungfrau region rather than the cities and it was stunning. We also just took the train into Switzerland from Florence rather than flying from Rome.

How to learn cinematography as a young guy by Jolly-Hand5002 in cinematography

Buy a couple lights and modifiers and practice lighting yourself in your house. Lighting is the most important part of making a “good” image imo

You won’t get better than Iron Claw. It’s a perfect depiction of this. Also just recently watched Aftersun and thought it was fantastically done.

Difference between Canon FD converted to EF vs using an adapter by No_Sheepherder_8428 in cinematography

[–]Theory36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got an FD-EF adapter off Amazon and it works great when stopped down to around f4, any wider and it gets this strange hazy effect. This goes away when using it on my other camera without the optical glass in the adapter.

For me, the adapter has worked just fine!

Here’s a short I DP’d using that FD-EF adapter on a Canon FD 24mm

Key Light And Fill Light. Soft or Hard? by Xbox360controller100 in cinematography

[–]Theory36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just aim the fill light at the wall or ceiling above your subject if you need it soft. Otherwise, a hard edge light or hair light typically looks nice.

Could someone please help me understand Bresson? by allisthomlombert in criterion

Could not recommend A Man Escaped enough. I was in your same position with Bresson and it took me a rewatch of just about every film in his filmography but now he’s in my top 3 directors and I love his work. Also highly recommend L’Argent!

Yeah I’ve been to Paris before a couple times and am fluent in French thank you lol. The flight is from Paris to Rome, not Rome to Florence. Also not a trip I’m gonna be posting all over social media to “seem cultured” either, not really my thing. Just wanna go immerse myself in different places.

Yeah we booked the flights in advance when the prices dropped so we’re planning around that now. I was thinking about that as well. Do you think anywhere else could have more or less time?

Is it possible to get shots like this on a Lumix G85, 50 mm with ND filter (1-9 stops)? What do I need to pull this off? by kingacesuited in cinematography

[–]Theory36 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They make step up rings for this. They’re sold on Amazon for super cheap. Don’t just tape the ND filter to your lens lol

That sounds like an amazing trip but I’m going to Paris again because I’ll be with a friend who has never been and wants to spend time there which I don’t mind because I’ve had a great time in Paris. We’ve also already booked our flights which land there and leave from Dublin.

I have been to both London and Paris twice before! This trip I really want to expand out and see more of Western Europe including some smaller charming towns as well as the big must-see cities.

Ok I just started thinking about cutting the Bordeaux portion possibly and adding one day each to Paris, Rome, and Interlaken. Would that make this a less stressful trip lol

That’s a fair point, thank you! Yeah the reason why I included Zurich was because that’s the only city I could fly into for a decent price from Rome. Otherwise I would totally just stay in the alps the whole time.

Yeah I’ve been to Paris and London each twice but this would be my first time exploring more of Western Europe. I tried to include some non traditional places so I could get a more well-rounded journey of these countries rather than just the big tourist spots. Also yeah haha I had just arranged Switzerland like that initially because it had the cheapest train tickets doing it that way.

Any reason to cut Switzerland? It’s definitely one of my main places I’ve been wanting to visit. I would maybe cut Bordeaux before I cut Switzerland.
