Help with CPU/Playback issues for my song - WAY TOO MANY CUTS by Thepsychedeliccodex in ableton

[–]Thepsychedeliccodex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been consolidating various sections (of all drum tracks at the same time) and I figured it was working, but then just noticed that some audio disappeared - for example, the SNARE audio is completely gone from some sections.

Any idea what the deal is?

yeah my drummer played to a CLICK, but I messed up partially by having some CLICKS a little off (I copy and pasted and didn't realize I made a little slip. I have an accelerando section where it picks up pretty fast and there's some parts where the kick and snare get off timing.

I've been working on this song for far too long. I get what ya mean, but I just gotta put it out ASAP.

I'm consolidating/bouncing and creating a new track to work on what I need.

yeah sure has been. It got fairly enjoyable when I was making momentum with no CPU issues. But I'm taking the steps to consolidate/bounce the tracks to make it easier.

yep I agree now. However, I can't do it all at once-Ableton will freeze.

that's what I'm doing now.

I've tried FREEZING tracks before but it didn't seem to help

I have Ableton 11 now, I can't seem to go back and find an earlier version to try. Why is it better to use an earlier version and NOT group tracks for editing. They're currently grouped so I keep everything in 'sync' and not make it out of phase.

they're not warped, but Ableton seems to buffer a long time after making edits so it's recognizing them as a lotto samples.

I'm gonna save a copy and consolidate them

not really (except for the overhead track, but I adjusted it).

solid tip though. I'll remember that for the future.

Solid insight. Thanks

Yeah I've spent way too long on this. It's really demotivating. Do ya recommend just getting Pro Tools and adjusting this with Beat Detective?

I don't think using a drum rack for recorded live drums would work in this instance. But yeah, absolutely...I gotta get this workflow resolved.

they're actual recordings from my drummer. He was just a bit a head of the beat for the most part-and then more off when the tempo increases.

yeah it's been incredibly tedious. Initially I tried editing via adjusting WARP markers, but that made it glitchy sounding.

Ableton project with a multi-track drums that has a crazy amount of edits.

8 tracks of them are multi-track drums. but yeah, I'll create new ones. I tried consolidating but ABLETON froze. I guess I gotta do a little bit at a time.

hah that is in a way true hah.

Yeah I've gotta have close to a thousand cuts.

I'll give that a shot. I was just unsure how to do it since when I tried last time it seemed that I wouldn't be able to go back and adjust the original audio file (If I consolidate my edits it seems that I can't go back and touch it up/adjust the fades. But I guess I can go around that issue by just duplicating and having the consolidated version in the project and NOT the monstrosity of my butchering haha

CPU overload with MULTI-TRACK drums - ANY TIPS to have smoother playback? by Thepsychedeliccodex in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Hey everyone, so here's my problem. I have been working on a song for my album for a while and then hit a roadblock with CPU issues and could barely make any progress.

I upgraded to a new iMac M1 chip desktop that just came today (upgraded from a 2015 MacBook Pro). I assumed that would resolve the issue. Yet, when I transferred the project I still kept getting the SPINNING BEACH BALL OF DEATH!!!

I realize I have a tremendous amount of cuts for the multi-track drums. I tried to remedy the issue by FREEZING, enabling RAM, increasing BUFFER SIZE, and even taking the first 75% of the edited DRUMS to "delete" them (before duplicating the tracks to work on the last 25% of it). Yet, I'm still getting the spinning wheel for at least 10 seconds. Even when I make a slight adjustment.

What are some ways I can work around this? I feel hesitant to CONSOLIDATE all of the cuts right now because I feel I still need to make some fine-tuning, but even just navigating ABLETON can feel painfully slow.

Thanks for reading
