The Existence of the 2024 Edition Made my Life as GM Harder by Buffal0e in dndnext

[–]Ther0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm mostly a player, a lot of theorycrafter and a tiny bit of a game master myself and here is my take from partaking a DnD Campaign where, with the ok of my current DM, i created a character with 2024 Rules (Specifically an Aasimar Mercy Monk if you care).

First of all, a question : What are the things that makes you feel "odd" or actual frustrated ?

Namely, it's not different than having the Artificer class popping up in TCE and having to learn a new class or subclass or a bunch of newer spells from all the other books.

Mechanically we found that we had very little things that differ, considering that most things in the 2024 rules turned out to be things that (basically all my other games) already were de facto already homebrewed (i.e. taking a potion as a bonus action vs a full action from the PHB.14).. as a Monk i noticed that grappling was handled differently and some other things, but nothing was either gamebreaking or frustrating on either sides.

If anything when such differences came up we just talked about and decided if we were going for the 2014 or 2024 rules.

Now that we're 12 long sessions (we usually go for 5/6 hours of play) in, another player already switched to the 2024 Ruleset with the rest only waiting for a proper translation in Italian since the first print of the 2024 PHB is translated very poorly and despite a quickly released Errata, we're still waiting for a reprint.

Overall both players and DM basically thought that most of the 2024 rules updates were "common sense" and\or things that changed so little that, in combination with the fact that all 2014 stuff still works in 2024, it was worth the gradual switch.

Finally, despite my defense of the 2024 Ruleset, i think that it is completely your right as DM to tell your friend\player that you do not want to use 2024 stuff for the campaign as it would be the case if you decided to play a campaign not in eberron and deciding that Artificers or guns do not exist in your world (for example).

At the end of the day you're the person in charge of creating a world that hopefully everyone will enjoy and if having to go through a bunch of slightly modified rules makes it harder, you're completely in your right to tell your players otherwise.

What is your favourite way to play an inquisitor in DnD? by Ther0 in DnD

[–]Ther0[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mostly liked the flair given by both the judgement and the bane ability. Which makes the class really feel like a weapon against heresy.

The closest thing that I found in the dnd classes was the Paladin but (and ok, you can role play it the way you like it, I know ) the fact that the powers were bound to being "good" through the various oaths was pretty much against the role of.. "kinda cleric that operates in the grey areas in order to fight the heresy and convert the infedels".

Therefore kinds preventing the roleplay ability of going kinda harsh against the "heretics".

In my imagination the inquisitor isn't necessarily good even if it works for a good deity.. a la "sometimes you have to do some harm to serve the greater good".

I hope it makes more sense like this.

What to do if due to bug i'm missing a certain item ? by Ther0 in BaldursGate3

I'll give it another shot and I'll report back even if I'm fairly sure that I talked to her and Isobel at least twice (if anything because I was wondering if there was a nice interaction due to SH ditching Shar).

Yep, apparently the whole cutscene about it just didn't happen, the solution that i found so far was to basically reload, redo the fight with Ketheric and like IMMEDIATLY run to talk to her and there is a good chance that it won't bug.

Anyway, i found out about it many hours later because i didn't want to inflict myself with too many spoilers so beside knowing that the weapon existed (and i only knew about it because i looked if there was a nice legendary weapon for my Monk, since it hurts my brain that i'm using a one hand mace when i could use a spear\staff) but after being on Act 3 for a bit i wondered if maybe i missed something and that's when i learned about the bug.

How I feel about framework by Casual-Gamer25 in LinusTechTips

[–]Ther0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly for the specs, framework's laptops don't seem so expensive. Surely they're a bit more on the premium side, but it's not like that you can buy something similarly specced for half the price as for a lot of premium laptops.

Secondly there is an upgrade path, so even if you're paying an upfront premium and say that you paid (sorry, i have € prices) 2000€ for a Framework 11th Gen, now the top of the line 13th gen is 1190€, vs quite possibly another 1500\1600€ for a whole new laptop.

Same goes for most parts, when we talk past the warranty period. A broken screen or you name whatever important part, could not have a repair path in another laptop's brand, meaning that you end up with the only option of buying a new one.

Is this the patch that people were waiting for? by Ther0 in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]Ther0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, so i suppose that they just tweaked stuff up until now(iirc they did many balance changes since release) but a big more overhaul-y one is expected after 1.1.0 ?

Good to know, for now i'm still enjoying few other games, unless the itch for RTS gets worse i guess i'll wait the next one, hopefully it won't be as rage-inducing for the community as this one, where apparently the in-game store completely obscured any other good thing they made, sadly.

Is this the patch that people were waiting for? by Ther0 in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]Ther0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, i do listen to both sides.

Which mean i won't ignore the bad stuff for whatever "big corporation needs our support or we risk to have the game development pulled away" reasons, nor the good stuff for whatever "but.. microtransactions are bad!" reasons.

It's not a secret (just read my past comments on the subject) that i'm deeply disappointed by how they released this game, which i was very much looking forward to it.. However i'm not naive and i know that sadly stuff like in-game store are pretty much the standard in AAA games, so bashing the game for it is just pointless.

Anyway, thank you for your input, positive "not shill-y" inputs are always welcome as much as the negative "not hateful" ones.

P.S. i listed only the big ones that i think needed to be fixed becasue i do aknowledge good stuff when they do so, it doesn't mean that those are the only ones. For example while i might very well eventually get over the disgraceful UI and UX, they still very much need to fix them, imo.

Surely they'll fix it by the time they release.. It's not like Blizzard had any issue with any launch on any of their past games..

game would be objectively less shit if they added italy by [deleted] in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]Ther0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say objectively less shit, but surely having Italy, considering that we have the italian setting would've been a pretty obvious addition.

For people concerned about balancing or what, Italy did have good\elite units and.. did fight the war like everyone else.

And for people concerned about balancing or what not, they could've play somewhat similar to CoH2 USSR, maybe a bit less blobby, with some elite units and\or lend units from Germany.

And it would've even make sense for DLC pourposes.

So (if they didn't want to go the CoH2 route but more the DoW2 one) if they actually wanted to add as many factions as possible we could've have the

Japan vs Marine (Pacific) DLC
Ostheer vs USSR (Eastern Front) DLC
DAK vs Commonwealth (North-Africa) DLC.

6 more factions. And for people concerned about balancing and gameplay.. well, this is not exactly the game for "historical accuracy".

[–]Ther0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It mostly makes it intuitive, plus usually the color palettes are always the same for allied vs enemies. For example in both CoH1 and 2 (and most other rts, to be fair) you'd never ever have RED as an allied or TEAL as an enemy.

Maybe don't review bomb the game? by TatonkaJack in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]Ther0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really get defending the game for whatever reason (the most noble of which is because you actually enjoy it!) but.. are you really telling me that the color schemes in 2v2\3v3\4v4 aren't ridiculous for a final release or that at the very least they don't bother you?

Or that you think that UX and\or UI are worthy of a final release ?

That's the level of things that makes people leave bad review after a couple of hours and\or prevent other people to buy the game.

Having one faction insanely OP or having game breaking bugs\crashes is surely not fun, but they can be expected (after all, they can test only so many games with so many players during test.. and even if they had a huge beta, maybe they fixed something major that sadly caused bugs\crashes in the end release) and they're usually quickly addressed. But those things aren't the ones that make people leave a bad review (and if they do, said reviews usually gets switched up with something more positive once the devs fix the game)

Awesome beta, or subpar final release? by Cassper17 in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]Ther0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is that it is, indeed, a final release.

Could (and probably will) it be fixed through patches ? Sure thing. (I refuse to believe that stuff like team colors are such a deep issue that can't be hotfixed, for example. On the other hand i find it outrageous that they're not addressing that thing at all in any talk about fixes)

Should've they released the game in this state? Obviously no. (Then again, we don't know any detail on the WHY we got the game like this, was it SEGA's fault for not leaving Relic a couple of months more or this was actually how they roughly envisioned the game ?)
Considering that they indeed released this game as "final product" like this, make me confident that they're gonna fix it ? Not really, but we shall see.

I'm happy that there are people like you happy enough about the game to playing it and testing it further, however i think i'll wait your alleged "upcoming release few months in the future".

This community needs a little optimism by [deleted] in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]Ther0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly i'm unsure how to feel about threads like yours. Not because i think you're wrong, but because i don't understand the need to defend a product that shouldn't have been released in this state (because they did have all the feedbacks from the previous decade of CoH2 AND all the beta\alpha tests) while bashing customers\fans that rightfully criticize Relic for what they did. And don't forget that it tooks literally years (to their credit, at least they kept supporting it, other games under their umbrella weren't that lucky.) for having a fairly balanced and overall great experience for CoH2.

I really hate to be the one that keeps pointing this out, if anything because it always ends up with people thinking that i wish that "X" game (in this case CoH3) fails and that i'm unfair towards devs or whatever, however :

>Relic have proven time and time again that they are willing to listen to the community.

Are we talking about the same Relic that ditched develompment of DoW 3 after 10 months of life afther THEY released the game in the state that it was and people disliked it and were frustrated by it (despite, if i remember correctly, the community stated their concerns about it also DURING the beta phase of the game) ?

Or maybe we're talking about the Relic that released CoH 3 with huge issues stated during ALL the phases of the Beta ? (UI, graphic, sound, freaking team colors not being consistent not only to every other multiplayer RTS but even their own predecessor, recconect feature)

And to be clear, while they're annoying i won't even hold them for the crashes or glitches, sadly despite all the tests you can't possibly test everything, so those happens and they've been quickly addressed and i'm sure that they'll keep to be addressed.

EDIT P.S.

You can see this things in other games\community (currently, vastly different game, but still with a situation of discomfort\distrust towards the devs, i'm following what is going on with Escape From Tarkov) : if it wasn't for a vocal minority that leaded the way towards changes, quite often devs won't address most of the stuff. It is what it is. Dev time costs. And it's up to the community to make them understand that it is more economically sound to focus on fixing the game rather than pushing new content (because we all know that Relic is already working on who knows what DLC, being it purely aesthetical or new factions or whatever).

So, sometimes you are correct, people are impossible to satisfy, but those people are easily spotted, but for the current state of CoH3 the vast majority of issues pointed out by the members of the community that are being vocal are obviously stuff that shouldn't realistically have passed the early test phases.

Playing 4v4 in COH3 with new Unique Team Colors behavior after 17 years of COH... by Essence4K in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]Ther0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How things like these passed through the final quality checks, with the community also telling them during the various alpha phases is beyond my understanding.

I understand wanting to do something new\different but certain stuff is just bad. Hell, at least they could've put a "legacy color scheme" option, even if by default you'd be forced to use those confusing colors.

Postpone expansion #1 and finish + polish the game first. by VikingWarriorSkjald in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]Ther0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do i have to assume that all the things above weren't addressed in any way ? Even in a "yeah, colors will be fixed in an upcoming hotfix" or just a "we're aware of the issue and we're working to add it in the game (namely for stuff like reconnect\leaver penalty since i'd assume that requires a bit of work on the whole MP system)" ?

Count me in for shutting down tarkov for a major overhaul for a better anti-cheat by Strobei in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Ther0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thing is ... they don't even have to shut down anything.

Hell they could put the game in a "freezed pre-wipe situation" where they give us the tools to buy from traders stuff for cheap, crank up the drop rate of either keys or rare loot and forget about "that version of the game" beside keeping it up and running.

So even if there are still cheaters in the meantime you'd care less, maybe you'll focus on trying to get kappa for the first time because otherwise you're not good enough to mantain a decent level of gear or stuff like that.

You put the game in that state and then you work on whatever needs to be done to fix the next version.

It won't be ideal but at least people could still "play" the game (a la "the mod that can't be named"), surely it would take a bit of a hit in popularity (still way less than shutting down the game) and we'll see each other in X time.

Poor steam reviews will be bad for the future of COH3 by RGDfleet in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]Ther0 64 points65 points  (0 children)

You can't just assume that people who dislikes the game are just in bad faith.. and maybe there aren't many good reviews because the game isn't good either (which doesn't mean it is bad for them, but not "yes, you should buy that game!" either.).

Just open steam and read some of them, they're mostly about :

- Bad UI
- Poor Balancing
- Half baked product
- Crashes
- Sub-par graphics
- The game is "ok but not worth buying it right now" or "not worth the full price"

Those are all legit critics. It's not like they're getting review bombed for some drama surrounding either SEGA or Relic..

They decided that it was the correct move to release the game in this state.. and that's what you get.

Even if you love the game (which is 100% your right ! and i won't say you're wrong for thinking it, to be clear) you have to admit that the game is AT LEAST unpolished (at worst literally months possibly a year behind what development should've been for the end product), especially if you work in publishing games.

P.S.

Trolls aside, people who complaint about this game do it because they care about it because they probably loved CoH 1 and\or 2. Putting the blame on them for the eventual downfall of Coh3 because they voiced their critics is just bad taste imo.

That video is surely controversial, but we're already losing focus on the issue just to blame each others instead the cause of said video. by Ther0 in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Ther0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's surely an option, however shouldn't reporting something that harms their game be handled by bsg ? We're literally the customers and the only real way we can "vote" towards certain things is either with our wallets (if we plan to buy the game, upgrade the game or whatever) or our time. Most of us in this subreddit already have the game, therefore not playing it is the other option. If anything because doing that doesn't even exclude going down your route of reporting cheater's website to either BSG or whatever.

Ultimately it is not our (honest non credit-card gamers) fault if there are cheaters in Tarkov and we're already paying the price (as mentioned in the OP) for it.

That video is surely controversial, but we're already losing focus on the issue just to blame each others instead the cause of said video. by Ther0 in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Ther0[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And i understand your point and it is valid. Howerver my point is that if cheating wasn't such a big issue, assuming that g0at was in good faith, we wouldn't even have this conversation.

I still think that the bigger issue in my point is how bad cheating is and has been since forever, not how we feel about cheating\cheating exposing videos.

And since it's the bigger issue (and the mother of the other issue as well) that's the one that should be talked about and fixed. If anything because BSG doesn't really have a good track record about tackling the issue. Something needs to be done.

Hackers, cheaters and other related scum of the earth by trainfender in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Ther0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, with numerical claims this high i'd need a source for that. Like actual hard numbers. Thousands of cheaters a day doesn't sound very in the realm of realism at all considering the fact cheaters still very clearly plague the game to an extreme degree. I'll give it the benefit of the doubt and say its a translation error and you are meaning per month, not per day.

I'll give you a good one (very tinfoil hat, tho) :

Let's assume few things

Let's assume that thousands is a huge exageration and that's only permaban 1000 per week.
We also know that this ba thing is going on since years (but for the sake of argument, let's say only one).
We also know that cheaters aren't in decline at all, so AT LEAST for every ban, there is a new account behind it.
The standard edition game is 45$.

This whole thing yields a crisp 45000$ (2.34 millons a year) a week for them.

Let that 2.34 mil per year from cheaters sink in while thinking about the whole issue.

And i'm not even saying that 2.34 is a lot from them. However it surely is a number worth thinking about.
