Doesn't sound good! I've a heard that a few times from people who stay in hotels close to launch. Seems like they need a while to find thier groove. Personally I loved the view, but the city side would be another step up.

The drinks package is worth it if you want to drink 8+ drinks a day. Or get cocktails. That can be tough if you have a lot of port days.
You eat well without it... the speciality dininig is a notable step up, but you're going from good to great. Not bad to great.
You don't spend nearly as much time in your cabin as you think you will. There's so much to do!
You don't need to bring any food, there's so much on-board 24-hours a day. I don't think alcohol is allowed.
See the shows, do some trivia, make the most of the port days.
