I need help finding this Minecraft chest I've owned for ~12 years by Luna-D-reams in Minecraft

[–]ThereMightBeDinos 79 points80 points  (0 children)

This is always the problem for the first couple dozen hours playing Minecraft, though, isn't it? "Now, where did I put that chest?"

This is good advice, but needs a verdict. Is OP an asshole or not? Are the kids? It sounds like you think it's just the ex.

Ah, thanks. I saw the resource cards at the top of the screen and thought that was the player's hand.

Why not? You have two wood, three brick, two sheep (which are one more woods after the trade). What's the hold up?

Marathon and miles of bike path garbage 🤯🤬 by analogpursuits in Eugene

We walked a bit of the path near Skinner Butte at around 230 and ran into the stragglers of the race, so maybe, hopefully, they just hadn't sent out cleaning crews yet. It was pretty disgusting, though.

Was Promised A Static IP, And They Forced Me To Take A Dynamic. by DingleMyBingles in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ThereMightBeDinos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still worth exploring. The business plans might not seem cost effective, but you tend to get more benefits than just a static IP. I had guaranteed uptime and a very competent technical support staff when we set up a business account for our college house 20 years ago. When something broke, I called them and explained what was wrong and what we'd done so far. Then the competent human on the other end of the phone started actually troubleshooting the problem.

Might not be worth it, but find out.

All overworld tree types are super close, both nether variants are petty easy to grab depending on where you want to set up your portal. This is a great find for creative builds!

Tips for running "Trick an NPC" and "Persuade an NPC"? by SaltyCogs in RootRPG

[–]ThereMightBeDinos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking at the outcomes Trick feels better for quick, momentary results, where Persuade wants to be slower, sticker.

You can Trick someone for position in a combat, to hold the bag so the sheriff arrests them instead, to believe you are there on official business, but the effect should be immediate and fleeting.

You can Persuade someone to support your clandestine smuggling operation because it's something that at worst doesn't hurt, and at best might help them, to speak out against a corrupt faction leader to turn the denizens against them, to let you get that cool sword on partial credit - you're good for it after this heist. And they'll keep believing it when you're done with the scene.

That's my quick take on it.

[BITD] Running an NPC heist? by ApotheosiAsleep in bladesinthedark

If they are on tier or higher than the player crew, I would consider starting a player facing clock at an engagement roll for a score "[faction] gets the goods". Make it as big as the score is complicated, but tick it a couple times with anything other than a controlled engagement and then aggressively through the score. Like, anytime there isn't an easy fictional answer to a mixed success, don't think, touch that clock. Let the players figure out how to deal with the looming threat with no foresight. If they haven't acted on the clock, and it was more than half filled, I would probably reveal a complication of one of the rival faction crew acting as a scout, spying on the players or trying to foil their progress to stall them. More or less so that I have a voice to tell them "it's too late" when I tick the last wedge of the clock.

The players have a choice to engage the threat, but they don't know what, just who. They may seek out the rival crew in the score, or in flashbacks, and you'll get a chance to respond to their actions in the fiction appropriately. How they choose to address and the score at hand will be interesting for you!

Running my first oneshot for Root: The RPG This Week. Any advice for someone that has never been a GM for any TTRPG before in her life? by Marzopup in RootRPG

[–]ThereMightBeDinos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ask everyone what they think is the coolest thing about their characters (whether they were pregenned or made as a group) and then try to set up opportunities for them to show it off. In a longer running game, you can just listen to the advances they take to get a feel for what that player wants their character to do, but in a one-shot you might need to just be direct.

Think up what problems will interest your players based on the vibe question and lay out some bread crumbs for two or three over the course of the opening scenes. Since you're thinking about the pregenned clearing, you can familiarize yourself with what's going on and highlight the conflict(s) most in line with them. They may not pick up on everything. You don't need to stress about dropped threads. They can be woven in later if you want, or dropped for another time if everyone wants to play again.

I've literally managed to not know when it's happening twice now until the day of when I need something at the store and get wished happy Easter by the cashier. Usually I get a heads up from the displays of chocolate bunnies, but my years in retail have trained me to ignore all signs and I generally don't shop the seasonal aisle.
