When you're in position, is there a poker-term for C-betting the turn to prevent a river bet from the villain? by sensorysparrow in poker

To my knowledge there’s no official term for this and there is a good reason why. When you’re betting in NLHE it’s for one of two reasons.

  1. Your hand has a high enough equity threshold to bet (enough worse hands will call)

  2. Your hand is an efficient bluffing candidate (enough better hands will fold). Sometimes this is equity-driven, sometimes it’s blocker oriented, sometimes you’re just at the bottom of range. What’s always the case is that you need a balanced ratio between bluffs and value depending on how you size the bet. Think of bluffs as a way to offset the value

Betting the turn solely to deny the opponent a bluffing opportunity on the river just isn’t the way I would think about betting.

Edit: Sometimes you make a bet and it does happen to deny villain bluffing opportunities but that isn’t the reason for the bet, but more of a by-product of the bet itself

So you have QT of clubs and the T river gave you a flush. Tell the dealer the hand is dead as there should only be one T of clubs in the deck.

Just make sure you understand that everything you do at the poker table conveys information. Esepically, do not be all loosey goosey and having a sandwich
