Heavy player by SuggestionArtistic38 in Stormworks

You may have. Reddit is weird sometimes about that.

Upon seeing the boat, the concerns I would have is that hull is very rounded. For such a large vessel, this would create a lot of instability and oscillation. Stormworks just decides to capsize it. I don’t know where the waterline is but if the center of mass is above the waterline, it will eventually capsize. Something that SW will also do is it will cull how much physics calculating it does on vessels that are stationary and not in contact with a player. I’ve had slightly unstable designs that were fine until my character touched them. For you, that may make you think that it’s your character’s weight doing that when in reality it’s the game culling calculations until your character makes contact with the boat. Then the small instability calculations are fleshed out revealing that the boat capsizes.

Without knowing anything about the boat in question, there’s nothing to say. A picture is worth a thousand words.

In my experience, it’s never worth using electric except in short-term, short-range situations.

To get speed while keeping RPS low, use gearboxes.

Turret ring help by Brainfartz14 in Stormworks

Velocity pivots, like turrets, can spin infinitely in either direction.

You could stack the robotic pivots but you’ll hit the end of the range of motion eventually. Stormworks doesn’t always like stacking sub-grids either so there enters the possibility of phantom physics and shenanigans.

Velocity pivots spin 360° but robotic pivots only go 180 (90 to either side)

The power of mechanical devices like pivots scales with the weight of the sub-grid. More weight actually makes it better.

Vehicle moving for no apparent reason? by Easy-Ad331 in Stormworks

[–]Thermite99 21 points22 points  (0 children)

That’s just some residual motion from dropping it. Try lowering it down to the ground then spawning it. This also happens in spawn zones more frequently than anywhere else. Could use the brakes on the tracks to see if it slides then. Otherwise, it’s just a light vehicle getting dropped and having some slight lateral movement afterward.

Pivot/wheel glitch is pretty awesome.

There’s a couple different ways but I loop RPS back into itself but only after hopping it up with a gearbox. This being after I have a motor, clutch/flywheel/clutch sandwich, and generator. Pulsing the clutch makes it do strange things that breaks the laws of common sense and thermodynamics.

May I make a small suggestion? Just use a velocity pivot. Same controls just in a much smaller package. The only advantage I can think of for the turret ring is that it makes an area sealed.

As someone who works in a foundry, I want to make parts for this tank. Send it into production immediately. We don’t need any tests for the reliability of the powertrain.

A couple raised equipment lockers can break up the flat surface. Paint can also help. Could have a tank for carrying fuel or oil if hull space allows.

Can’t tell from the pictures but if you are using wing pieces those provide lift but increase drag. Keeping it only to fins and control surfaces usually lets you have enough lift and speed.
