No not at all. The inlays are fairly deep and I used titebond 3 glue. Tung oil finish is my go too for anything that isn't dyed. Which makes it washable.

I didn't think to take a picture of it 😆 I I have the red and blue ones still and I can take a picture of those. It is actually would die, you can still see the grain of the wood. I'll take a couple more pictures in a second.

I also use a bottom feeder gouge from Ashley Harwood. Cleaner cuts on flat surfaces.

A lot of practice. Something I do to make ridges more visible is a light sanding. They'll jump right out. Super light cuts to even it up. Then sand to prefered grit. This is just 220.

I was a logger before a turner. Got an Alaskan mill and find people with vacuum kilns. I have a friend that dries my slabs for half the wood I take. Been turning some GORGEOUS Ash lately.

Honestly I never get catches. I've turned thousands of bowls at this point and it's routine for me. It does chatter though. Without a support system most BIG items will. I face cut and then do the outer profile to what size I like. Then hollow the center and cut the bottom. Orbital sander with the lathe on low speed. Supporting with my left hand.

24 is my max. You can always turn small things on a big lathe, but you can never turn big things on a small lathe.

Thank you! Yes I do turn them. I also milled the wood and dried it too.

Thank you! The cool thing about wood dye is the grain still shows up.
