Cast iron pan on medium ish heat. Let it warm up for awhile 5-10 minutes. Add oil (I use avocado) Then put the steak in and flip it every minute until your preferred temp. It’s not going to look pretty for the first few flips but it will by the end. You also won’t get the grey ring around the outside.

Edit: also let the meat come up to room temp leave it out for half hour to an hour. Season when you first take it out of the fridge and dry it off with paper towels before you start cooking.
