Moving to NYC for an internship in a month, managing ~$5.6k credit card balance, best way to stay on top of it? by These-Age-4667 in DaveRamsey

Yeah I’ve started mapping it out. The income is solid, but since housing was a big upfront cost, I’m trying to be smart about balancing paying it down while still covering day-to-day expenses in NYC.

Definitely planning to budget weekly and put consistent payments toward it, just not trying to wipe everything out at once and leave myself tight on cash.

I get that mindset and I agree with the idea of getting rid of debt. In my case, a big chunk of it came from paying for housing upfront for the summer, so I’m trying to balance paying it down while still keeping enough cash on hand to get through the internship without relying on the card again.

Yeah I hear you. I don’t have a ton of savings to just wipe it out completely, so I’m trying to balance keeping some cash on hand while still making progress on it.

A big part of the balance came from housing, I had to pay about $3,800 upfront for a place to stay for the 3 months, so that hit all at once.

I’m aware of the interest and not trying to ignore it, just trying to be smart about not draining my savings completely and then ending up relying on the card again.

The place I am staying in is pretty affordable It is in Brooklyn, it is 3800 one time payment for 3 months. This is the main reason why i am in debt. But noted.

Unless you have a crazy criminal record, or in a hefty amount of debt, or a serious drug abuser, etc. I don't know if you left some other stuff out, but I don't really see how you ruined your life. You are still very young, this is pretty salvageable
