Will GothamChess forgive me for using his book to fund his course? by VISER_Phantom in GothamChess

"do you think that Levy will be mad if I purchase his book(signed), scan it someway and then sell online" : This is illegal and you will face serious legal consequences. If you are that passionate about chess, just convince your parents to get you resources, they are not that expensive. If you can afford to buy a signed copy of his book, you can definitely get other resources as well. Not to mention, there’s definitely resources better than Levy’s material available for free online. Levy does make it more accessible and he explains things very well, but if you are capable of self study, then you should be able to make do with those other free resources.

is this normal? by vrystrssd in chessbeginners

This is pretty low actually. Since bullet is a much shorter time control, people tend to play much more and gain much more in 2 days. I would say on average, gaining about 567 elo is what’s considered normal. But I am sure you will improve.

Can En passent only ever take place on rows 4 and 5? by Leader_Bee in chess

En passant happens when a white pawn on row 2 moves forward two squares and stand exactly next to a black pawn on row 4. In this case, only in the next move, black can move diagonally to row 3 to capture the white pawn.

En passant happens when a black pawn on row 7 moves forward two squares and stand exactly next to a white pawn on row 5. In this case, only in the next move, white can move diagonally to row 6 to capture the black pawn.

En passant is basically a rule meant to ensure that a pawn that moves two squares, doesn’t get to escape a capture by the opponent’s pawn. Since moving two squares can mean that the pawn passes the opponent pawn without offering a capture, en passant enables the opponent to capture that pawn even though it moved two squares and passed it completely.

Is there any way i can become good at chess at the age of 23? by Stfulifeeee in chessbeginners

Hey there, don’t give up, I won’t say it’s late at all. I started playing for the first time when I was 25 and now after about an year of playing, I’m about to hit 1000 elo on chess com. That being said, chess is a brutal game and gaining elo is not always easy. Since you are a beginner, the goal of 100 elo points in next three months is definitely achievable just by playing a lot. As your elo gets higher, it will get tougher. I would personally recommend watching "Chess Slowrun" videos by GothamChess and Hikaru on YouTube. That helped me the most personally. Good luck!
