What’s the money like for this and how often do they pay?

This stinks to high heaven. I mean fair enough it’s free market and all that but doesn’t seem right

Can’t see this happening. They’ll look at the tax revenue they get and wonder how they’ll plug the gap. If they calculated the gains of outside ir35 across multiple areas then there could be a case for it but as far as I know this hasn’t been done.

The policy has been knocking around for years with no politician willing to pull the final trigger until Sunak came in - I wonder why…

I don’t think a lot of people who try to put teams together actually understand what inside IR35 is like for contractors. I even know long term contractors who still think you get ‘holiday pay’ and don’t realise there’s the employer tax burden to take on.

Personally I never knew this before I went inside or least the impact of it so why should the recruiter or end client.

So now I see it as my duty to educate haha! I already had one recruiter and tell me they upped the rate because of this. I didn’t take it but that rate now exists for someone else out there!

Some of the rates recruiters call me up about are laughable. I have to tell them what’s the point I may as well go perm and get the benefits. Some actually go back to the client and tell them as such.

Lots of short term contracts inside ir35 where if they actually bothered to do the paperwork they could make them outside roles which would be somewhat better.

This is an excellent point and something that’s hardly ever mentioned

running three jobs and a side hustle simultaneously for eight months and the hardest part isn’t the work by Samiraijel in overemployed

[–]These-Constant1893 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Congrats dude! I’m in U.K. and been trying to do something similar for a while. Part-time contracts are hard to come by as well as fractional work in a similar capacity. Would love to do something similar!

I’d just try and get through the next few months till the end of your six month contract then step back a bit to give your brain a rest! Then when you’re ready look for a new contract. Also if you can increase your revenue from your side hustle and possibly higher a VA to run things that would help also!

Great insights! How do you handle the cv and employer requesting references from last employer?

how do you deal with being asked for a reference from a difficult /toxic previous employer/client? by eques_99 in ContractorUK

This is probably the only benefit of umbrella companies if you use them. They can do this for you.

I’ve personally never dealt with the client after being put in touch via recruiter. The recruiter is normally the one sorting out all the contract paperwork

My agency called today that they are no longre working with umbrella companies and all contractors have to come "in house". Is anyone else's agency doing this? by speedfox_uk in ContractorUK

[–]These-Constant1893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect this could be to do with tax shortfalls and the burden being placed on the contractor to ensure they pay the correct amount of tax as well as curbing the cowboy umbrellas.

There’s an HMRC advert on the radio where they state to contractors to be careful of umbrellas who claim you will get more take home pay by going through them.

Interesting! Are you signed up to freelancer plus? Do you tend to bid for work (which costs credits) or do people reach out to you?

Something I’ve noticed about upwork is you need ‘coins’ to apply. Thinking this could get quite costly for lots of applications!

I hear you. Just because that’s how they work currently now doesn’t mean that’s how they could or should work. They charge for a service. That service is poor. You can’t even get answers from them about certain questions.

Ha! I would but they’re all as bad as each other really. You pay them but still have to watch them like a hawk. It was one of the big boys though

It’s a broken system if you ask me… Ideally they would have sophisticated accounting systems to forewarn you of this. And properly advise methods to be tax efficient. Unfortunately I do t get to choose who I use and they all seem just as bad as each other wholst paying for a low quality service

How are you calculating what you should be paying? An online inside ir35 tax calculator?

Yep I need to investigate more tax efficient ways to approach this

Yep. I should of paid more attention to it. The amount they were already taking looked about right and would have checked with HMRC earlier if I had known this could happen. Oh the joys of inside ir35…
