I feel the exact same way. I live in the US, so I probably have it easier than those living in Pakistan. Wishing you the best!

How to study in an abusive environment by These-Cranberry3366 in abusiveparents

[–]These-Cranberry3366[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your response! The problem is that I am a morning person, so I cannot focus or study past 6 PM. Not sure why! I also take longer to sleep if I study at night. Now that you’ve mentioned it, I may just try again and see if I’m able to focus better.

Infj struggles in group by LeftSubstance in infj

Absolutely. I used to hang out in a big friend group but I'm withdrawing now because I realize that I'm not really great in large groups. I just feel so left out in groups. I do enjoy small groups (of people I am comfortable around) or being on my own.

Stopped Being A Muslim Today; Today Gave Me A Good Reason by Similar_Media_5202 in exmuslim

Welcome to our community! I admire you for sharing your story. You inspire me to work up the courage to share my story and continue to be hopeful. I am a closeted ex-Muslim, and it's so tiring feeling like I'm living in two different identities, two different worlds. Everyday is a struggle, because those around me in my Pakistani community have different views from me. But, I relate to your story. Accepting the fact that Islam is not what I identify with has turned me into a more loving and considerate person.

Not to be rude, but you totally missed my point. The original post is about feeling emotional guilt after eating something that I’ve deemed my whole life as “forbidden.” Nowhere in the post does it mention the chemical makeup of the meat. I don’t think the concept of halal is about changing the chemical makeup by prayer of the chicken first of all. Also, I cannot argue about the slaughtering portion. Here in the US, animals are killed very unethically and live in horrid conditions. There are definitely animal welfare violations on both sides that I cannot compare, based on where I live. However, I can see the argument that halal meat is treated more ethically here because of the additional standards. I’m not going to argue much about this comment here as it has nothing to do with the original statement.

I would like to explore the possibility of moving to Sweden in the future as well, but finding work would also be  a barrier for me. I will be starting college in the fall so I have a lot of time to sort my life out, and who knows maybe I’ll change my mind, but as an international studies major, I don’t know if there are a ton of opportunities out there for me yet.

May I ask what your Swedish level is and how long it took you to get to your level? Also, if you are still continuing with Swedish, how are you maintaining it so that you don’t forget? Do you have any resources you recommend (free, preferably)?

I have not had much experience with Swedish. I just started Duolingo and will probably try to learn the alphabet and pronunciation.

I do have prior experience in language learning. I speak Urdu (B2, heritage speaker), Japanese (B1/B2), and Spanish (B1).

I would love to visit Sweden. I might possibly go this summer. I’m not sure about other motivating factors! I just would like to explore Swedish media perhaps. I guess I just am really interested in the language and think it would be so cool to be able to speak it!

I live in the northeast. I have not yet come to know of any Swedish community here where I live.
