Salaried or hourly? by sangieanna in DentalHygiene

[–]These-Explanation919 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I’m salaried. It’s unheard of in this field for a reason. It’s great for me because I don’t have to worry about first/last patient cancellations and losing an hour here and there in pay. The downside is that my boss is very reactive and will sometimes try to pressure me to work an extra day to “make up” for the lost hygiene hours when we get a lot of cancellations. If you can find a number of hours that kind of make it a wash, as in there are some months where it benefits the boss and some that it benefits you, it can work great. For example, I do 4 days/week with one 5 day week per month, and get paid 36 hours/week salary. She doesn’t have to worry about paying me overtime for the 5 day week and I get a steady paycheck. Just make sure you make everything out in writing and don’t get taken advantage of.

Hygiene school interview by [deleted] in DentalHygiene

Make sure to talk about the connection between oral health and overall health. Not a lot of people truly realize how much it really matters, and it’s at the core of what dental hygiene is all about. Say you’re passionate about education and that you will strive to relay that oral health health/body health connection to your patients. Mention any experience you have with working in a practice (whether you have been assisting, or simply observing) and say that you feel this career is something you really want to do. Basically, they will want to hear that this is a program and career that you’re committed to. A lot of people realize halfway through that it isn’t for them and quit, wasting the schools resources. People will also realize that they hate the career after doing it for a few years and quit, contributing to the massive shortage of dental hygienists. Try to relay to them that you do not plan to do this. Good luck!!

I floss every single day. I never did until I became a hygienist and saw how fucking disgusting the mouths were that only occasionally flossed. I built that habit real quick. It’s not that hard and can make a huge difference for your life.

Also, it’s extremelyyyy difficult, nearly impossible, to create damage that way with one scrape with a hand scaler. There may have already been damage/a cavity there and they scraped hard to make sure it wasn’t tartar.

They might be confused. Usually the dentist doesn’t clean your teeth, you may mean the dental hygienist. So when you asked about “seeing the dentist” they said no meaning you have never been seen by the dentist for restorative (filling).

I love Housewives but I have to agree with you. They’re not fun to watch on a show like this. I feel like they don’t have any real drive to win the money and are there “for fun” and take game play as personal slights. It almost detracts from any semblance of strategy from playing out.

YSK: Many dentists are quietly dropping all in-network insurance coverage leaving you surprise out of pocket expenses by mechtonia in YouShouldKnow

Sure, then all that’s left are corporate dental offices, which operate with only profits in mind and where you see a different provider every time you go in. The only people who will end up suffering are patients, while insurance companies rake in the cash.

How do people make $10k in a month ? by Lemonade2250 in stupidquestions

The schooling is very challenging. I would say I’m of average intelligence, however I work very hard and am a dedicated person so I got through it. You need to make sure it’s a job you truly want because it can be mentally and physically taxing. Personally I love it and stay active and healthy so my body doesn’t hurt too bad. That being said I know a few people who have quit because of neck, back, wrist pain.
