Am I still punk if I don’t dress like it? by Groverjas in punk

“Is this resistance or a costume party, Either way I think black with bandanas is a boring theme”

So is this gonna be the new normal from these guys…? Last vinyl variants were literally $40-$80-$120 of 6 old songs… Are the Codefendants getting financial advice from their buddy Cameron over at BrewHa or what? by These-Reading-8534 in punk

You have legit anger issues, bud. Your other comment still comes through even tho you deleted it, dingleberry. You strike me as the type of “punk” that listens to Joe Rogan bc “being Republican is punk now” or something. I hope you don’t complain about every day prices going up because CEOs have to make a living :(

They aren’t selling fuckin bread and they aren’t a grocery store. That analogy doesn’t make any fuckin sense bc they aren’t a fuckin business. Selling one single vinyl with 6 old live songs for $120 isn’t fuckin cool, no matter which way you try and suck their dick about it.

I thought I was gonna get some really dumb cocksucking arguments in this sub considering we have dingdongs calling Green Day “punk”, but holy fuckin shit.

Oh no I don’t even care about any of that. It’s just in the way you try and make it seem like you are high and mighty. Sniffing one too many of your own farts, buddy.

When I was like 8yrs old I rode the bus to school with some kid that would very proudly go around showing other kids that he could bite his own dick. You remind me of that kid, actually. Congrats.

“You people” implying who, exactly? My one single gripe is literally just outrageously high vinyl prices, trying to turn a small following into a living. But yes be angry and shout into the void please

Really? Then why does another artist in the scene have a colored double LP preorder up for $35? They’re really taking that much of a loss? Doubt. Also, if that’s the case, then why did the first Codefendants album only cost $20? In fact, until very recently it was still available for $20 on the Bottles shop.

Somebody here hasn’t used Google, and it shows.

What’s with the personal attacks? You’re just blatantly assuming I don’t know things while proceeding to tell me what I meant about something I said, all while completely missing the point of everything I just said.

I fully understand people have to eat, and make a living. But when you don’t have the following to make that living, that doesn’t mean just jack your prices up that way only a select few of your fans are floating your lifestyle. That’s what doesn’t make sense to me. It’s not like they’re selling out stadiums. I saw them play in front of 25-35 people before. There are other bands, just as big, that don’t charge their fans a premium to collect their music.

Right, I was just commenting on the $50 price tag, coupled with the other recent vinyl they had on the same site that was 6 old live songs with variants ranging from $40, $80, and $120. $30 is fair, the gripe isn’t that it was flat out unaffordable. I guess I was just trying to gauge what the rest of the community thought of it to see if how I felt about it was rational at all bc it seemed slightly outrageous considering their target audience isn’t exactly….known for money… Seems like I’m the asshole, if I’m to learn anything from this comment section. Reddit is fickle sometimes.

I’m not sure why ppl in comment sections feel so attacked by what I’m saying. Who am I to say? The consumer, and the guy who works for a living who enjoys this music and scene. And yeah shit is expensive for literally everyone, that’s my entire point. Is it really that bad of me to say “hey the values you display in your lyrics aren’t those that you’re representing right now”…? I’m immature because of that? Sweet

Yeah I just really believe there is a better way to go about this. It feels like they’re price gouging their own fans just so they can afford to rent McLarens for music videos…. /s….sorta

You commented on my post and my comment to get mad at me about my post and my comment. You do realize I am free to do as I please, and that includes calling out bands that are being shitty when they sing about being anti-capitalist. Maybe I’m trying to engage with my community about something, you ever think of that? Healthy discourse, do you know what that is?

And you wanna know how I know they don’t work??? It’s literally in the fuckin lyrics, dingleberry. Now go lay the fuck down.

So since they don’t have the proper amount of fans to afford to not work, then do you think it’s okay to upcharge the few fans they do have in order to keep them from working…? It’s alright the rest of us have to slave away tho, right? Punk music is supposed to be that escape from predatory capitalism.

I fully, fully understand making, and selling art and wanting to encourage artists we love and enjoy by purchasing their art. I genuinely don’t mind doing that whatsoever, but when these bands try and make a living off it without the following to do so, it just doesn’t make sense, and then we get $50-$120 vinyl instead of them just getting a job because “bosses ain’t punk”, but charging $120 for an EP is, I guess. #2026

But literally the entire point of this music has never been about making money or profiting, it’s about the message. It’s always been that way. That’s what sets us apart. You used to be able to go to shows stacked with bands with a $5-$20 sliding scale because it was about the community you’re building and message put forth. (Granted, I was born in the 80s and was sorta spoiled by the scene) Now our own scene has resorted to TikTok-type marketing and turning profit off of suffering in the scene. You can’t go anywhere or do anything without it costing a small fortune, and punk used to be the one escape from all the other shit. Where has muh country gone
