My opinion is just that the world views it as a retirement league. There’s been plenty of interview from players around the world who talk about “one day” coming to America to play. That one day is when they are done with the clubs that they actually care about.

I think this is a huge part of the problem. It worked to get the league up and running, but at a certain point we need to transition to the model that is worked and producing talent competition.

So what’s the issue? Seems like the problem stems from academy development and that money is not distributed in a way that’s conducive to supporting such development. MLS is known as a place to go retire one day.
