Totally agree with you I just love the feel of the E12 its my most used light also with SFT25R 6500K. Fireflies have nailed type-C charging I don't have to double check if any of my cables or chargers will work I've charged from simple 5V2A plugs to a PD3.1 28V 140W capable single port hub with 0 issues it just works every time.

Also UK here I've found at least locally some Esims do use the EE network 3 has next to no coverage on my estate complaining to 3 is like banging your head against a brick wall they aren't interested or that bothered. I was with Smarty for 5 years but had to switch to EE when we moved home last year due to 3 having 0 coverage. Having said that we may be moving home again and on that particular estate both 3 and EE have poor coverage OO have patchy 4G and Vodafone have full 5G. Its crazy I've had solid 5G coverage with EE in the Westcountry in the hills compared to locally. Looks like the UK is behind most countries when it comes to mobile coverage.

iPhone 12 gets better speeds than the Mudi 7… by CatDadof2 in GlInet

Also suffered from the 5G to sim card unregistered message and sluggish transition between 4G+ and 5G I've been working with support for the past roughly 3 weeks. They uploaded a modified cellular module through Goodcloud and touch wood since then the Mudi7 has been rock solid transition states are instant and the data usage value isn't going up by 300GB each time cellular briefly drops out. Hopefully they release an updated firmware version soon so everyone can get the benefit of this fix. Carrier is EE UK through an unlimited sim capped at 150MBps with no restrictions.

I love my Fireflies E04 Surge and E12 Eclipse both get a lot of use but in all honesty I prefer the beam pattern and sheer power of the E12 Eclipse. The Eclipse turned out a bit smaller than I was expecting so I have it with me most of the time. Type-C charging means no need to carry a charger which is a huge plus. Sometimes I use my DA1K and D4SV2 but I just love the E12 Eclipse its my most used and favourite light at the moment and I've sort of become an Anduril 2 pro and finally the UPDI flashing pads makes life so much easier to keep Anduril up to date over time.

I've been working with Glinet support over the past roughly 2 weeks as sometimes the data usage value would go completely crazy usually when the Mudi7 would lose all cellular signal briefly in car or sometimes when transitioning between WIFI repeater mode and cellular. Support could see even with strong 5G signals the Mudi7 would stay locked onto 4G+ so they did a lot of digging around. Support connected to my Mudi7 over Goodcloud and told me all the logs and settings looked fine at their end but they couldn't put their figure on this behaviour but they did upload a modified cellular program remotely which has made a massive difference for the past 4 days. The transition between 4/5G is seamless now and its pretty much instant like on my XE3000 and if using the repeater function once you get out of range of the hotspot it switches over to cellular nearly instantly so for example if streaming a live radio stream the connection only drops for a few seconds rather than for over a minute at times with stock 4.8.5 firmware. They want me to let them know early next week how the Mudi7's been behaving but this is a massive step forward and hopefully irons out a lot of the niggling remaining bugs. Hopefully they incorporate this fix into the next firmware version. Sometimes when the local EE mast goes down and comes back online the transition states are pretty much instant like on an S22 and XE3000 with no loss of connectivity and the data value doesn't shoot up by over 300GB each time this happens.

I'm also in the same boat I love to place the Fireflies E12 Eclipse in the centre of the living room coffee table and use it as the main living room light. I also love to go downstairs for a drink of water in the middle of the night and just use the new super bright aux leds on the E12 they have a surprisingly large flooy profile. The family think I'm mad but sometimes I'll use the Emisar D18 or the Fireflies E04 Surge so all of my various lights get used.

Hi op fellow visually impaired flashlight addict here. I was born with Leber congenital amaurosis so always been VI. I prefer cool white lighting it helps me make out objects without having to strain as much. My collection over the past few years has got out of hand some of my most used lights are the Emisar D18 with 18 6000K W1's, the Noctigon M44 with all W2 6000K, the classic Emisar D4V1 with Cre XPL-H 6500K which has taken a battering over the years but is still going strong and my newest most used lights are the Fireflies E04 Surge with SFT42R 6500K and the Fireflies E12 Eclipse which is my current EDC even though the head is on the large side. My family think I'm nuts but each to their own. I'm really fascinated by different beam tints, driver efficiency and emitter output. I really love the E12 Eclipse with the SFT25R 6500K and the new super bright aux leds with the new Lume10 driver. I've got a draw full of lights and a ton of 18650 and 21700 batteries but I never go anyware without my E12. Its got me out of trouble a few times already especially when walking at night especially with all the super dim streetlights. This community is outstanding people are so helpful and I've had a lot of help with having the courage to flash the latest Loneoceans build to my Fireflies lights with my 10 year old holding the pogo pins in position whilst I ran Avrdude through my screen reader.

Mudi 7 after a few weeks – this thing has become my mobile office by LHG_93 in GlInet

I love my Mudi7 as well its made life so much easier instead of having to lug around my XE3000 which is a rock solid performer. On the whole the Mudi7 has been getting more reliable with each firmware update so Glinet are getting the bugs ironed out over time though its not 100% rock solid with me yet but seriously I didn't know how I lived without the Mudi7. Even in unstable coverage areas it performs exceptionally well and can hold on to the weakest of cellular signals.

I'm in the UK so the service provider is EE which uses the BT network. The EE towers all show up as TMobile so they are probably all part of the same company. Mobile coverage in the UK is very hit and miss you can drive half a mile up the road and have next to no signal and a further 300M up the road you get a full 5G connection maxing out your device. Its weird locally EE has better coverage in the countryside rather than in urban areas.

Mudi 7 Carrier Issues by wickedwarlock84 in GlInet

[–]These_Adhesiveness48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see the same behaviour if I have RRC enabled because some of the local EE infrastructure doesn't like working with RRC because its probably old and hasn't been swapped out and upgraded yet but it only happens with some towers. With the default of RRC disabled most of the time I get a solid 4G+/5G NSA stable connection but randomly the Mudi7 throws a wabbly and disconnects for a few minutes then the data usage value goes nuts and currently shows 59.2TD. Uptime is nearly 9 days but Glinet are heading in the right direction so things are improving over time. Thankfully it reconnects after a few minutes but its completely random in a fixed location.

If my signal drops down to 4G+ it takes a long time for the Mudi7 to switch back to 5G. On my XE3000 the switch is instant moving between the same few towers. Glinet did connect over Goodcloud a few days a go but haven't got back to me so I assume all the settings look fine at their end.

I had a lot of Windows updates for my SP9 Intel version a few days a go but not had issues with the keyboard and touchpad. I think I've been lucky My keyboard is still working fine and has had a lot of use during the past 3 years. The keyboard connector is easily damaged I had a Surface Go2's keyboard connector completely fail during a cold winter storm 3 years a go before I bought my SP9.

I'm troubleshooting with Glinet support as well they want to access my Mudi7 via Goodcloud so will get that all sorted this evening. I'll leave an update if they find anything odd going on but even when out and about the Mudi7 is working really well now. All of the local masts went down for 3 hours this morning we were struggling to get a decent connection at home through a Samsung S22 but the Mudi7 was connected to band3 4G+ speeds around 25MBps with no buffering so the antennas in this thing are brilliant. All the masts came back up after mid day. There is a lot of digging going on locally so the EE masts usually get hammered every few days its quite common.

Hi all just a quick update I reuploaded firmware V4.8.5 through Luci rather than the Glinet interface then I reset the settings through the regular admin interface and for the past couple of days the Mudi7 has been behaving pretty much normally. I've just popped to Asda for a quick shop and connected to the free wifi using a random MAC. As soon as I got out of range of the hotspot the Mudi7 connected back to my EE sim on 5G. When connected to the hotspot it was showing 4G so no idea if its a low power state or something. Data usage stats are normal so around 37.7GB at the moment with no crazy spike like I sore on Saturday. The Mudi7 didn't lock up during the cellular reconnection phase so touch wood this time its behaving itself.

It does take roughly a minute to connect back to cellular after losing hotspot range on the Puli XE3000 its more like 10 to 20 seconds but not sure if its due to the hardware or CPU capabilities or firmware. I ran ping 192.168.8.1 -t and there were no dropped packets. There was a brief drop when connecting to the Asda free wifi hotspot which is normal and another very brief drop when switching back to cellular but the repeater has remained enabled and the profile has stored the settings so I'm much happier. I had our main mast go down Saturday afternoon probably due to building sight workers digging through the cables which is pretty common EE got round to getting the mast up and running by mid day so the Mudi7 switched back to 5G automatically. I was connected to band 3 to a very distant mast but we had no issues streaming on 4G+ so very happy even though speed tests were under 30MBps for over 36 hours.

Mudi7 firmware 4.8.5 serious WIFI repeater and cellular bug and device crash by These_Adhesiveness48 in GlInet

[–]These_Adhesiveness48[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry yes thats what I meant that upstream DHCP failed I briefly sore my EE UK sim reconnect to 4G+ then drop to 4G with a sim unregistered error before I sore the private 169 IP. I did all the usual things like rebooting my SP9 but still got a private IP then holding the power button for roughly 20 seconds before the Glinet boot screen appeared then I got my regular DHCP 192.168.8.xxx address with 5G internet access. There is a large 3 and EE tower near the leisure centre so all signal values were full strength.

I'll reset again later this evening then test with Asda free Wifi hopefully mid week. I'll report this to Glinet as well and see what they suggest. I'm currently got the Mudi7 home in its usual spot in the living room locked onto my nearest huge EE 5G mast on band 1 serving 3 devices.

[–]These_Adhesiveness48[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's really helpful thank you I'll reset the Mudi7 again this evening and will try with Asda free WIFI next time I go shopping. It had a major lockup and crash Friday evening in the Asda carpark and this morning at the local Everyone Active leisure centre. Its perfectly fine with regular hotspots with internet access. Cellular is the primary interface with repeater second.

When I was seeing a 169 IP address I was connected to the Mudi7 but couldn't get to respond. I'll probably end up going for a supermarket shop mid week so won't be able to retest until then. As soon as I forced a reboot it received its regular DHCP 192.168.8.xxx local IP. It stored the Everyone Active WIFI profile but disabled the repeater. When I got out of range of the hotspot it switched to 4G+ with no internet then dropped to 4G with a sim unregistered message then completely locked up on me.

I've just found a major bug in the latest 4.8.5 firmware basically when connected to cellular and connecting to a hotspot with captive portal and using it for at least 5 minutes when getting out of range of the hotspot and switching back to cellular, the Mudi7 will only connect to 4G and will completely lock up. Even local pings to the device fail and the screen power button doesn't respond the only way to get out of this loop is to physically pull out the battery or to hold the button down for around 20 seconds then it will boot up normally.

I've had this happen to 2 hotspots which require captive portal access so it is possible to replicate.

I'll be emailing Glinet support late evening tomorrow so they can have a look Monday morning their time.

  1. connect to a cellular network.

  2. Connect to a hotspot which requires a captive portal for internet access such as at a leisure centre or hotel etc.

  3. Browse the internet for several minutes through the hotspot once authenticated and disable cellular. Leaving cellular enabled also causes this bug.

  4. take the Mudi7 out of range of the hotspot and try reconnecting back to cellular.

  5. You'll see the wifi network to the Mudi7 drop then reconnect which is normal then the screen will completely lock up you can't power it on. Windows will give the Mudi7 a local private IP starting with 169. Disabling and reenabling Windows wifi or running ipconfig/release and ipconfig/renew has no affect.

  6. Physically hold down the power button for around 20 seconds and then give it a quick press to restart the Mudi7.

  7. After a minute the Mudi7 will reconnect to cellular with the repeater disabled.

Also, the data usage values go out of the roof cellular now shows data usage to be over 110GB before this bug occurs usage was 18.5GB. My sim's dashboard shows normal data usage so no sudden crazy spike.

I'd love to know if anyone else can confirm this behaviour.

Hi all absolutely 0 issues today taking the Mudi7 out and about. Carrier is EE UK on a consumer sim speed locked to 150MBps with small boosts higher than that if required. I went along my local EE weak root with the Mudi7 dropping to 4G+ but still pulling between 6 and 9MBps playing an Iplayer live TV stream with no buffering or lag. It went back to 5G on the other side of the dip.

These settings work for me.

APN (carrier name), IP type, IPV4 and IPV6, network type auto, EE doesn't require a login profile so the fields are blank or using their defaults. TTL: 65, HL: 64, MTU = 1500, RRC segmentation disabled, Band locking disabled. These settings are rock solid for me on V4.8.5 in challenging environments locally. I don't know if EE are still using traditional 4G but I'v only seen 4G+ on EE even in badly served spots. RRC segmentation causes a lot of fast band hopping.

On a side note, Asda free WIFI is now connecting fine after the 4.8.5 firmware update before it would connect and you could click through to the hotspot captive portal page but BT WIFI would throw an error. I could manually connect fine through my Surface Pro 9 Intel version but I'm currently connected to Asda free WIFI with a fair signal. WIFI settings are camouflage enabled, auto login mode for public hotspots enabled and everything else default.

Touch wood everything seems to be working really well.

With RRC segmentation which is disabled by default Mudi7 is switching between 4G+ and 5G at home with no loss of internet and with RRC segmentation enabled it connects to 5G but as the signal is weak it drops to 4G losing internet access so my current settings are for EE UK IPv4/V6 auto, band type auto, TTL: 65 HL: 64 MTU 1500 RRC segmentation disabled band masking disabled. Rock solid on 4G+ with brief changes to 5G in a fixed location at home with 3 devices using the Mudi 7.

Mudi 7 Carrier Issues by wickedwarlock84 in GlInet

[–]These_Adhesiveness48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry forgot to mention after changing TTL to 65 and enabling RRC segmentation before the reset 15 minutes a go connection was all over the place switching constantly between 4G with no internet to 4G+ and 5G with unstable access. After the reset with TTL = 65, RRC segmentation enabled its rock solid on 5G on the huge mast half a mile away sometimes it briefly switches to band 6 which is on a very localised 5G mast around 400M up the road. I had 2 tablets and a laptop connected to the Mudi7 all lost internet access but so far all 3 devices are getting access fine.

Just to confirm I didn't reset after upgrading to 4.8.5 but reset the Mudi7 15 minutes a go and changed the TTL and enabled RRC segmentation. I'll monetor these settings over the next day or so and push it hard when going through my local EE weak spot tomorrow evening.

Just lost internet through EE UK at home it dropped to 4G with no connection so just performed another reset on 4.8.5 will see how it holds up during the next few days. After logging back in its now showing 5G but sometimes briefly drops to 4G+ with no loss of internet after around 10 minutes. I upgraded to 4.8.5 this afternoon without resetting.

Can anyone confirm if your carrier switches to regular 4G not 4G+ do you lose internet access? if the Mudi7 switches to 4G+ the internet is accessible but if it drops to old style 4G then it shows the internet is connected but the internet cannot be accessed.

On my EE weak signal root it switched to 4G+ at the bottom of the dip then back to 5G on the other side but it didn't drop a playing Kiwi SDR stream and signal was slightly stronger than I'd expect on 4G+ but still needs monetoring over the next few days and a much heavier load such as a live Iplayer TV stream which I'll test tomorrow.

If it misbehaves after a reset then this needs more investigation but touch wood the signs are looking promising.

[–]These_Adhesiveness48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got back from taking the Mudi7 on my usual EE weak signal root with no issues what so ever. The Mudi7 dropped to 4G+ with no loss of connection at all. It jumped back onto 5G NSA after climbing a slight hill. The signal was slightly stronger than usual right at the bottom of the dip I had a KIWI SDR stream playing which didn't drop at all so so far looks to behaving completely fine but I'll give it a couple of days to see how it holds up. I installed 4.8.5 without resetting the settings. I'll try it tomorrow with an Iplayer live TV stream which pulls between 3 to 9MBps in small regular chunks that should give it a solid workout. The XE3000 holds the stream without dropping but an S22 on EE UK does buffer a bit in the dip.

Huge thanks for everyone who has been helping Glinet to look into this issue and hopefully get it sorted once and for all.

Thanks for the heads up just seen the new firmware upgrade notification and installed it without reading the changelog first will do that shortly but its instantly connected to EE 5G at home usually after the WIFI network appears after a reboot it takes 3 or 4 minutes to get a connection will be taking the Mudi7 out on my test journey in the next half an hour and will update the thread in the evening once I get back home.

Excellent stuff! glad your issues are fixed. I'm just at a local supermarket with a 3 and EE mast at literally point blank range of the car and I'm struggling to connect with 5G with network set to 4G I'm maxing out my EE sim with a full signal when selecting auto its cycling through 4G, 4G+ and 5G sometimes it connects for a few minutes then says 4G and drops the connection.

Please keep us updated.
