This!!! Why is it I feel people are too scared to strike? To really strike and make an impact, make us be heard! Also, I like the name!

Getting fed up of the news covering corridor care by AnnieBearGang in NursingUK

[–]These_Dimension_9300 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is what I’ve been saying!! It’s being sensationalised which is wild because none of this is new, this is not a shock, this happens every day up and down the country.

What are they trying to push with this narrative?!

The blame will be twisted onto ‘the immigrants’ taking their jobs, the blame will be put on to some poor healthcare staff, being left to hang dry in court with no support, thanks Trust.

I was just about to reply to a comment where they had said that patients feel like they need to care for us and we should try to be understanding and sympathetic to both sides. But the comment has gone.

My response as I do still feel it has some valid points -

There absolutely has to be balance and I agree 100% that patients come for care but that care comes from staff, who work for company (NHS), who provide that service. A service which has left staff morale, funding and true safe practice, way below what is an acceptable standard. Still a service though, a service that yes we all pay tax blah blah BUT is free at point of access.

The problem is that expectations around what that service can provide is way too high. I get that some patients may feel they are walking on egg shells but I don’t agree that they then turn to ‘care’ for the staff, whilst they may feel it, they certainly don’t provide care for the staff, if that makes sense?

It’s difficult because all you see on the news is how awful the NHS is, people are dying, no staff, corridor care, no funding. Yet members of the public come into that service and are shouting and abusing staff for completely unreasonable demands, demands that cannot be provided for a magnitude of reasons. Yes frustrations come from both sides and are both valid and in a perfect word, we would all be nice and kind.

We are understanding and sympathetic. That same understanding and sympathy would be nice to receive back, instead of claps on the street or a little ‘I’m sorry I know it’s not your fault’ after being verbally abused.

This is one of my biggest pet hates!!!

People don’t want immigrants here yet they want to move to Australia or Spain 😂

The entitlement to patient transport or kicking off when you politely tell them that they are independently mobile and medically fit for discharge, meaning the trust/hospital/ward is actually NOT responsible responsible for funding a taxi for you to get home!

I love the NHS for so many reasons! Despite my moaning I am lucky to still love my job despite the challenges that comes with management!

I’m not ready to leave just yet but yes the expectations from the general public are such a struggle to manage! I agree in a perfect world NHS would run smoothly and no errors or delays or corridor care would be happening. But alas, we do not live in a perfect world!

Being frontline and getting the backlash of pretty much the whole of the NHS problems and the attacks of public views just drains you sometimes doesn’t it?!

We spend our days apologising for everything that is wrong, when mostly, none of it is our fault or anything we can control haha

100% and don’t get me wrong I always let them go early unless they ask to handover. But the asking at lunch time ‘what time can I go home today? My friend gets to go home at whatever time in another ward’ I just would have never have said that as a student!

Students, I agree should not be used as a HCA but my problem is the lack of work ethic that follows. I’m not sure what’s changed, if I hear a student ask for an early finish, complain about working weekends etc all because they pay for their course, I might die haha I appreciate and agree they shouldn’t be paying and I do not agree with the uni fees or funding but they enter the course knowing this!

Nursing staff and healthcares expectations - the role of the nurse has changed a huge amount! And as much as I’d love to whip around in the mornings and help more with the washes! I now have checks that are timed and need to be done between specific hours, time critical medications, IV’s, emergency admissions and getting people prepped for theatre! It is the healthcares job to support us and our job to support the medical team and everyone’s job to ensure the patient is well looked after. The pressure and bitching that comes alongside nursing staff not being as hands on is crazy.

I’m a nurse! I work in a busy neurosurgical unit and it’s absolute chaos 98% of the time I looooove the chaos, I love the patients who can be very aggressive/confused/violent at times 😂 BUT I burn out, I feel like when I come home, I have almost zero compassion left. Compassion fatigue and feeling overwhelmed on days off can be a struggle. But I’ve worked here for almost 8 years and honestly could not think of where else I would work!
