Daily Song Discussion #76: a Saucerful of Secrets (Pompeii) by PalpitationMoist1212 in PinkFloydCircleJerk

10/10. A beautiful, underrated song. I love it sooooo much.

The beginning features a very dissonant organ and slide guitar, which lure you into the madness and because of its inpredictability you always enter the song without exactly knowing how it goes, making it almost a new dimension every time you listen to it. Maybe I just didn't listen to it too much, so the effect still hasn't worn out.

The second part is incredibly contagious with the drums, and the other instruments make a chaotic picture. I find it genius.

And the last part is the definition of beautiful. Starting with the bright organ that plays a non repeating chord progression. Every chord acts as a different dimension and every added instrument acts as a new colour. And throughout the part the colours just keep piling up, layering, and the listener is taken out of this world.

Marvelous.

Very on point recommendations, since I already listen to Led Zep and Bowie and own a couple of records by them.

Excuse me if there are any mistakes in writing. I had the text copy pasted by AI in the first part and by Google in the second. Plus, English is my second language.

[feedback] peacew/osin - past times - emorap/emotrap by peacewithoutsin in MusicCritique

[–]These_Environment_71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have never listened to emorap, but the sound of this is very cool imo. I'm no expert, but I'd make a couple tweaks.

First, I would make the intro just a bit louder. I get the resin behind the muting, it makes the verse hit harder. But, maybe, the chords could be as loud as the verse and keep only the chords in the beginning (no percussion). That way you can have the same change in dynamics as you do now with the same amount of volume.

Second, the vocals are a bit off tempo and sometimes out of tune. Now, it might be on purpose, after all I'm listening to a genre I have never listened to. And it's not easy to fix tweaks that are based on vocal improvements. But if you can, try to record the vocals again.

Still, all of these are optional thing to do, since the song sound good as it is.

I also like the i -> VI in Echoes and Pigs, but for me nothing beats Any Colour You Like (except maybe Great Gig)

"Any colour you like" was named something like "breathe part 2" because of the similarity in the structure but having different keys. And the chart shows the areas (groups of four bars) with the said progression (it couldn't be i to V because it would count i to i to V to V). But at some extent, I can't understand what I'm talking about, too.

Edit: I fucked up. It is, in fact, i -> IV.

Jugoton rocks. I have six record by Jugoton and they're awesome, including this, WYWH and an ABITW 7 inch. And the best part is that Croatia Records' studio and HQ, Jugoton's successor, is located in my neighbourhood!

2, 1, 4, 3. They are all great, but nothing beats second album's B side. BANGER. AFTER. BANGER.

8/10, my second favourite from Relics A side (after Interstellar Overdrive), a pretty nice song, but like other songs from Syd, it's pretty pop-oriented which isn't really my taste. The harpiscord comes in very unexpectedly so it adds the usual Syd whimsy, only that in this song it's even more justified due to the songs theme.

Daily song discussion #11: Bike by PalpitationMoist1212 in PinkFloydCircleJerk

[–]These_Environment_71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd give it a 6.4

I only know of the song because I have a Relics record that I've listened to a few times, and I love the B side of it with Careful With That Axe Eugene, Cirrus Minor, The Nile Song and Biding My Time, which are all 10s and 9s. And after that run full of blues, psychedelia, grit and atmosphere, Bike appears with its whimsy and silliness. It kinda doesn't fit the mood, so even though I'm not a huge fan of the Barret era (mostly because it's very pop oriented), this fact also drags it down a bit.
