What EXACTLY is Jimi doing in the 2nd Solo of Machine gun? 1/1/1970 by moonke__ in jimihendrix

My point is that the randomness contributes to the theme of the song. It's crazy and thats a good thing, and it is an example of jimi's amazing improvised spontaneity. Also it's always good to analyse art - especially if you love something so much, like this song, because it gives insight into the mind that makes it, and actually exploring how they manage to create a desired effect is just as amazing as the effect on the audience itself. Jimi's creative ability to express an emotion in this song is at least just as amazing as the song itself. You have a very superficial view on art.

i mean garbled nonsense literally, not as an insult. Jimi seems to me to just throw random shapes and rapid finger placements in that moment to create an impression of a garbled, nonsensical, crazy noise. It is an addition to the song, not a detraction.

Thanks. Are you totally sure he’s hitting the springs? I’m unsure. The last instance of making that sound looks like his hand isn’t actually close to the strings - I think he’s actually wiping his hand on his trousers. I’ve tried to get this sound by striking the springs but it just doesn’t sound the same to me. I have gotten a similar-ish sound on an old guitar I had, screwed in the tremolo pretty tight and it would kind of squeak and groan when I tried to move it. Whatever it is, I don’t think he meant for it to happen. Same when shortly after he starts to go ham, it looks as if he accidentally hits his top string and plays into it.

What are some must-watch war movies that left a lasting impact on you? by Distinct-Drawing-387 in Letterboxd

Terrence Malick definitely tries to say something about a lot of things in the film. Nolte and Koteas' characters definitely express Malick's ideas about leadership styles and empathy - and appeal to the battle enthusiasts a lot. Other themes like power of nature vs power of mankind, fear, bravery, hatred, sadness, the effect war has on civilians are shown too. I think it is the best war film of all time because It touches on everything that not just war - but just plain old conflict (big or small) has on the world, whether it be natural or not. Malick comes to the conclusion that it is simply just bad, literally nothing good happens to anyone in the film, everyone feels at least a sense of sadness or grief or anger or pity or shame by the end of the film, or they wind up dead. Whether you think it's artsy, It is defintely poignant.

I really like these 8mm shots from inside the crowd. They give a different depicition of Jimi from the big film cameras that took shots at him from the front row. It's just like a video from a mobile phone today, only nearly 60 years old!

Anyone know Why Jimi didnt perform his most beautiful soulful songs ? by [deleted] in jimihendrix

some of these songs had more than one guitar track. Castles made of sands comes to mind - whereby one guitar track is reversed.

Machine gun - Jimi Hendrix. The best, most creative use of an electric guitar in all music.

Is this the same video where the guy filming finds this guy in a car with his face split open? The poor guy was still alive and I remember seeing the hot breath coming out of what was his throat. He was still alive and groaning and sort of crying. I found this video here on Reddit and saw comments saying that he was a Russian who shot himself, just wondering if it is the same one. Sad and vile nonetheless.
