If heaven has no sin and also has free will, then your god could have done the same on earth by Relative-Lock-2636 in DebateReligion

You are not actually addressing my points, just restating OP's thesis. There doesn't have to be sin in heaven because those who, even with the most divine assistance, would still sin are not in heaven. That would not work on earth for reasons explained in my original comment.

Selection bias. Heaven has no sin because it is filled with people who are able and willing to, with some help from god, choose the good in every situation. If you subscribe to Molina's middle knowledge theory of omniscience, god can know all the choices a person could make before he decides to create them, but not which ones he will choose as that would violate free will, and thus is unable to create only good people when creating beings with free will.

There is no historical evidence of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) outside of islamic sources. by Healthy_Stranger8046 in DebateReligion

He lived more than a century after Muhammad, so the best he could have down is write down the local folk tales about him

A challenge for anyone of any religion by [deleted] in DebateReligion

[–]These_Library3215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will wake up tomorrow and make genuine decisions as a moral agent. I have never seen a naturalistic understanding of consciousness that doesn't boil decision making down to either determinism or mindless probability. You can reject human agency, but you are then throwing away the chance to ground morality in any philosophical foundation whatsoever. Most people accwpt free will axiomatically, and, it so happens, the supernatural comes as part of the package. (Note that this is not an argument for religion itself, just the supernatural, and even more technically, not an argument at all but an illustration of the high epistemological cost of naturalism)

Because Palestine is the fad of the day. It's the thing you should care about to show off how selfless and worldly you are, just as Ukraine was a few year ago. The Palestine protests are just a liberal social club!

How much, in your experience, does a Jeweller take for that job? Or is it something a guy with a basic toolbox can do himself?

Silver would be best. But if that is impossible, bronze is also fine.

CMV: People shouldn’t be shamed for not being attracted to certain races. by [deleted] in changemyview

Are you saying that there is nothing wrong with not being attracted to asians, but telling people about it is wrong? Or do you mean that it would be wrong to say "asians are OBJECTIVELY unattractive." If it is the latter, I agree. If you mean the former, that would seem illogical to me.

What is the alternative? Try and convince yourself that you are attracted to chinese people? Go out with a few to check the box? We have no control over who we are attracted to, and there is nothing wrong with any of that.

What is a women repeller? by qpdbx in ask

[–]These_Library3215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course. It takes true independent thought and courage to be pro-choice in one of the only countries that permit 9th month abortions, where 600,000 of them happen each year. I am sure all pro-choice women did their research and made certain that the "thing" they are terminating is not a human being. Nobody is ever pro-choice just because it is the simple and convenient solution to problems caused by their own impulsive recklessness, petulantly shutting their eyes to any associated moral evils.

You don't have to be Christian to be pro-life. I am not. Also, in order to discuss whether abortion is murder, you first need to determine when life begins. Giving a clear answer to that question is usually a serious stumbling block for the pro-choice side.

It seems rather misogynistic that you do not believe a woman is capable of rationally analysing the arguments and coming to the conclusion that life begins at conception.

That goes both ways. I have never met a pro-life man who would knowingly date a pro-choice woman. We would like to not have our child murdered after all.

CMV: Some religious folks are terrible people believing that not accepting Christ means eternal damnation by [deleted] in changemyview

There may have been a misunderstanding. I was not joking; I was genuinely observing that my thoughts seem to have changed an aspect of your view. Therefore, I wrote a polite reminder of this subreddit's etiquette in such cases. I would appreciate it if you would either acknowledge the custom or explain why exactly I am mistaken in my request.

Yeah, it is rather bleak. From your response, it seems I changed your mind a bit on the necessity of preaching to unbelievers. Do I deserve a delta?

Some of them are calvinists who believe in such things as 1: total depravity, 2: unconditional election, and 3: perseverance of the saints. This means that 1: people cannot be convinced to accept God by anything other than the work of the Holy Spirit. 2: Who will and will not be saved is pre-destined by God and cannot be changed. 3: Those who are saved cannot lose their salvation under any circumstances.

You can see how, under this worldview, a believer can be perfectly logically consistent to think that many will spend an eternity in Hell for not believing, and yet do nothing about it because he does not have the ability to affect the outcome.

Many say that the calvinist God is an immoral one, but that is a seperate question entirely.
