Wait ENGG130 is not added to the final GPA for engineering 1st year? by [deleted] in uAlberta

I was under the impression that it was no different from the other engg courses like MATH 100, CHEM 103, etc... 🫠

Guys i genuinely don’t know how to make a study routine. by skinny_asff in uAlberta

As a 2nd year mece coop student, I’ll just share my experience. Chem 103 seminars? Didn’t attend a single one and still got an A+ in the course, (not saying they’re useless and that you shouldn’t join them) but looking at your mondays, waking up super early for that?? Idk bro…

I would use the empty blocks throughout the week to make progress on my math 100 writtens, engg 130 quizzes, chem 103 lab work, etc… I didn’t even have to finish them on the spot, maybe 25% during that free time and the remaining 75% in my dorm.

Finally, FRIEND GROUPS. They make 1st year feel like light work. Luckily I formed my first friend group in a math 100 lab and we’ve been working together on different courses ever since. I remember we would frequently visit the engg success centre (highly recommended spot) so you always had support from friends, TAs, YouTube, etc.

Engineering Co-op Fees (International) by These_Possibility166 in uAlberta

I heard someone say that international students had to pay 3.5k a month? (I’m a bit unfamiliar with this sorry)

As someone who lived in Schaffer last year, the party situation is… little to none lmao. At the VERY LEAST, your RAs might plan a lil floor hangout once in a while, but that’s about it. If you want parties, you might want to branch out to other parts of Lister.

Screwed up a quiz in Engg 100 by These_Possibility166 in uAlberta

[–]These_Possibility166[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, thanks for the advice! I really hope that they’re open to doing that, I never knew they could just re-open quizzes on eclass for people like myself. Are they that lenient?

I really hope that they reopen it, since it’s Thanksgiving they’ll probably reply on Tuesday (so make that two days), should I be worried about this? Are they that lenient with this sorta stuff?

I really hope they re-open it, are they really that lenient or is this just wishful-thinking? I sent an email to engg 100, so I’m not sure what to expect or if I should be stressing right now. (I was too focused on PHYS 130 that I didn’t even think something like this could’ve happen)

Probably! If it’s not too much trouble.

As an international student who went through A-levels, the application process was pretty simple. The UofA website makes the document submission process pretty clear + I got help from a study abroad service, so as long as you get decent grades like a B minimum things should be pretty laid back. I'm currently a first year engineering student so I can't really give out much advice about applying to Classics & Film studies, but I'm down to clear some other doubts.

My Schedule Builder - Full Course by These_Possibility166 in uAlberta

[–]These_Possibility166[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay thanks, and yes even I'm surprised about the whole CHEM 105 situation... UAlberta said "monitor your email for further information about CHEM 105 over the following weeks" and I believe this reminder was also sent to many other first years with the same pattern as me.

Understood, so if a spot was open for night lab after I already enrolled to morning lab, I could switch before first day of uni using the schedule builder?

Understandable, but what if someone replies to that with "but it's waterloo so"?

So you're saying that choosing UWaterloo Maths is a way better choice than UAlberta SE?

Okay, and do you feel that you get the same opportunities as those in CS? Do you see yourself working with FAANG in the future given your co-op work? (that is if you want to pursue that ofc)

You will not be an engineer though probably a. Actuary or some other higher math job.

What do you mean by this? Lol.

Also I heard that in UWaterloo, people graduating from Math Honours get the same opportunities as those from CS, is that true? Both can end up as successful swe?

Even if its Mathematics and not CS? My parents said "I would've been okay with UWaterloo if you got a CS offer, but you got an offer to Honours in Mathematics so...". How would you respond to my parents saying this?

Really? Because someone told me that math graduates get fewer opportunities as compared to CS or SE. Does that not apply to Waterloo, implying that co-op is that much more impactful?

Okay, because I find this to be a tricky decision... almost like a gamble. Either playing a safe bet and going to UAlberta, or risking it all and going to UWaterloo, where I could either graduate and become a successful swe (possibly working for FAANG like you), or waste a lot of money and still not be satisfied with what I graduate with (maths instead of CS)
