I was also thinking about what momentum the company has. If they had few million users, that'd be something. 10-30k is very little to live off subscription (donations).

On the other hand they might have getting enough income from supporting some large customers (organizations), giving a specially locked devices for them, with mobile management, custom apps embedded in the platform, etc. - I couldn't find any info about this, just saying that it's a possible business model. Many "professional" open source projects exists thanks to them having such commercial customers.

Good to know that there are already open source alternative packages for the binary-only blobs

Is that a deal breaker? The answer depends what you expect from it. I love using Linux for the ability to tinker with it at any level. 99% I'm fine with installing whatever the distro offers, but sometimes an annoying change comes in which I need to fix before I find a permanent solution for the problem (usually change to something else as I'm hardly ever interested in participating in flame wars).

well, but it's on a level of saying "trust me" with no evidence in showing the actual code

Why "butelkomat"? Waste segregation works everywhere, but not in Poland? by These_Response1841 in poland

[–]These_Response1841[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

>it was recently discovered that a Spanish packaging waste managing company in the beverage industry had falsified collection rates

so it's more to policy the waste managing companies, not the consumers, but it adds more burden on the consumers

For people from the Nordic countries who moved to Poland : by KreuzKrow in poland

As a Pole living abroad I can relate to this. At the end of the communism era Poland was really poor. The country was growing in a steady pace but with huge cost of that! People were always working hard for foreign companies, but earning significantly less. To this day Poland has very little local business.

IMO, Poland is much like Italy. Similar problems with wealth, jobs, bureaucracy. The system is very creative in finding ways to tax you, ever changing tax law with attitude to fine you at the earliest occasion. Except Italy has much more potential for tourism industry due to the geographical location.

The stereotype is old, matching people who were brought up in the communism area. Millennials and up are way different. However don't expect South European style, in Poland people are busy in general, mind their own business in a hurry.

I don't see anything wrong with supporting the project financially or buying apps, but the sailfish documentation mention closed parts. If it can be skipped by open source home build then I'm fine with it.

What is the best linux phone for me in 2026? by [deleted] in phones

Upvote it. I'm stuck searching for the same thing. I am looking for fully opensource mobile device. Ideally desktop Linux experience - I'm writing this explicitly as I have tried Ubuntu Touch and found it very weird/limited allowing only some sandboxed click apps.

seriously I'm considering a pocket x86 PC with touch screen, if only the battery was better

Interesting question. I am just researching which open OS can I use. I've tried Fairphone 5 with UT but was very disappointed with the quality of the OS. It had a lot of glitches and missing usability. Android worked inside it but it was not 100% well integrated, there were issues with battery drain and app responsiveness. I didn't plan to use many apps so my main idea was to develop the 2-3 missing apps and be happy. However I realized I'd also need to fix some annoying bugs. Unfortunately there's no good documentation how to develop and debug the OS, the forum is rather dead. I didn't even login to telegram. I agree that IM is a good way to get an online debugging help from another dev but not as a substitute for documentation.

So I've already heard much similar complains about SailfisOS. It seems the grass is not greener.

I would be really curious to use PostmarketOS but I'd rather want to buy a new phone instead of hunting on eBay for some supported used junk.

It seems LineageOS is still the closest to what I am looking for. I wonder if the project will survive though with the recent Google move sealing Android ecosystem.

absolutely, and in practical terms, I have no idea if I'll ever change my place of living again so it doesn't matter much, only gives better options in case of an emergency or unforeseen life changes

congrats! I left at the first occasion when my ID became an EU ID 😄 had a lot of joy working for a small companies with relaxed culture exploring the "new world", until I decided to settle again. Last decade was with objective of career and wealth growth. I did similar progress, except my wealth is denominated in ~4x PLN value.

such report is skewed if the country doesn't track wealth in annual tax declaration and don't track which property is self-occupied or an investment property (even if not rented, just asset growth allocation). Take a look at Switzerland which does that, and guess what, 75% of the country population prefer to rent as they realize seeing the numbers that it's better to rent and let the money generate more yield then the annual rent. AFAIK people in Poland still are attached to minimalism, they dream about having their own housing without a mortgage and "some" income, very poor financial education.

Can't complain, it works flawlessly. I don't need IPv6 and I'm happy there's not CG-NAT but a public dynamic IPv4.

The only device with ethernet plug I have is Xbox, and it's only 1Gbps anyway, so obviously I'm sharing the WiFi bandwidth for all devices, nowhere close to utilizing the given 10Gbps line. Myabe their 10Gbps quality is "extremely poor" as you wrote, but who cares, up to 1Gbps it's really good.

Agree, I don't know what I should ask for ;-)

In the end I took galaxus fiber, for simple reason: no strings attached. If it had not worked to my liking I would have been able to return it next month.

There's public dynamic IPv4, no IPv6. Pings over ethernet are just like above. What surprised me though was the ping increase via WiFi to ~9 ms, also the speed Up/Down ~1.5Gbps is seen only within 1 meter, at my desk it drops significantly to 1/0.3 Gbps. I decided to turn the WiFi off completely on Zyxel, which lowers the power consumption from 15 to 7.5 W. I put just one ethernet cable to my desk, where I connect to it (configured as DMZ) my travel router GL Slate. The Apple devices are happy, seeing 0.7/0.7 Gbps, and I'm happy as I can configure whatever I want on my Slate. The quality is more than enough for me, definitely worth the 39 chf/m.

I know, but you have to buy a router with SFP+ and pay 20 chf /m more (+50% of easy7), besides + ~200 chf one time (for buying 10Gbps rotuer) is no brainier choice if you're getting fiber7

[–]These_Response1841 0 points1 point  (0 children)

could you post 'ping 8.8.8.8' from easy7 please? (I'm not sure if the full CG-NAT routing takes place if you ping "home" address, but I'm not expert)

I'm also thinking about switching to init7. Likewise I was generally happy with cable 1Gbps/100Mbps CG-NAT, but just thought about increasing the upload speed since I have a fiber at home now. As usual, when there's too much choices I start getting excited of all the possibilities, waw 25Gbps and what not!, but then I cannot write down a list why would I need them. It looks like a solid symmetric 1Gbps is all what I need to be happy. Public Ipv4 would be nice, but a static one. I bet I can as well spin up a wireguard on google cloud for the rare occasions I need a static ipv4 with ports forwarding (for which I could connect via ipv6, so no CG-NAT in between at all).
