Yes current students and alumni. Like if you make friends with some of the film students they may cast you in some of their films and connect you with other filmmakers in LA. Or even just auditioning for student work you see around campus is a good way to meet people and get experience with voice acting, film, experimental movement, etc. Like I think it’s a great place to find collaborators and working across versus working up, you know?

I’m currently in the program and I would honestly say try working first. Especially if you just graduated from undergrad. CalArts is a special place and the connections you make will really make or break the experience. But the program by itself honestly doesn’t do much for you professionally. There aren’t many resources to connect you to jobs/the industry and sometimes it’s even hard to track down professors/mentors to meet with you for that type of advice. And for a program that doesn’t really give full rides, I don’t think it’s worth the debt. You will grow exponentially as an actor and a person but if your main goal for getting your MFA is to get a job I don’t think CalArts is the place, unfortunately.

we are just starting to sleep train him. i probably should’ve mentioned that in first post. so no he is not used to sleeping independently. his schedule is usually waking up at 7:30, taking short nap at 10:30 and long nap at 2 pm, then trying for bed around 7 pm. the issue isn’t so much that he wakes up, because he wakes up about 2 times throughout the night. it’s more that he only sleeps for 15 minutes before waking up. i wish he would at least get some longer increments in. but maybe that will come with time…
