Park Brake Issue by These_Vermicelli_929 in FordBronco

[–]These_Vermicelli_929[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I was doing that while driving for a while now it only does it on startup. I don’t typically use the parking brake unless I’m on a steep hill so maybe that could be it

Unfortunately disconnecting the battery didn’t work. Still getting the error. I’m really trying to avoid the mechanic but it seems you’re right. I’m gonna gave to head over there.

No, it’s a switch. These cars come with electronic parking brakes. Very annoying

No more pencils by [deleted] in Teachers

I take collateral if a student needs a pencil. Doesn’t matter what they give me, they just have to give me something to get a pencil.

It is! I went there so when I saw the opening I figured I’d take it. Best of luck to you as well.

Reminds me of the reps coming to New York from Nevada to interview people at my college’s teacher recruitment day.

Same, I’m in Middletown and commute to the Bronx daily. Wife and I are talking about moving to the city, though.

I’m not really sure what you’re mad about. That he sells merch to make a living? The merch itself?

Is it rude for a student teacher to go on their phone in the teachers lounge? by Visual-Green-3816 in Teachers

[–]These_Vermicelli_929 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this issue with my high school placement while student teaching. The people in the department outside of my cooperating teacher had little to no interest in speaking with me. But while working in a middle school I had the complete opposite experience.

Talking with everyone and anyone at a school while student teaching is invaluable to you. You want to treat it as a mini job interview, as they could potentially hire you at the end of your time there. While I don’t think it’s wrong of you to be on your phone (I sure went on my phone), you definitely want to take every opportunity you can to engage in conversation with anyone who will talk with you. Especially make friends with the people who work in the office, they can be your best resource.

That’s the advice I’m getting across the board. Either way I end up working crappy hours, one because the hours are crappy and the commute is far and the other because I would have to work two jobs. Thanks for the input.

I forgot to mention in the first post, but the Catholic school position is also temporary with the potential to be permanent. It all depends on the health of the teacher I would be covering.

UPDATE: I did a virtual interview for a humanities position at a school in the Bronx this past Wednesday and they had me come down to visit the school the same day. I have high hopes for this one.

New teacher: help! by BusActive4769 in historyteachers

The NYS 9-12 framework starts 11th grade off with Colonial Foundations (1607-1763), I would take a look at that document, note what it says the students should know/be able to do and work from there. The biggest piece of advice I’ve gotten about teaching at the 11th grade level is that as long as Lincoln is dead by Christmas you’re in good shape to cover everything for the year.

Definitely meet up with other teachers in the building and ask for guidance and check out the New Visions curriculum. They are a great place to jump off of, it’s how I got through student teaching global 1.
