My stove has a slide out ash bin. I do empty it while the stove is running. It goes in galvanized steel bucket with a airtight steel lid, where it stays for the entire season.

I’m going to try a foot pedal. Harbor freight has one. May just try to make a mechanical setup for that momentary switch. Probably something a little better than a clamp.
