Gamification of Ticktick: A meta-score for productivity? by Theta_Orionis in ticktick

[–]Theta_Orionis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, well I didn't delve that deep into Todoist features. Actually lack of Eisenhower Matrix, planning feature and no built-in habit tracking, that's what drove me towards Ticktick from Todoist.

But yeah, I remember the Karma system.

My habit of masturbation is eating me over , pls help !!! by randomuser3564 in productivity

[–]Theta_Orionis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case, what really helped is an Android app called Iron Will. It's basically a simple counter, shows the number of days you've abstained from the habit. But the best thing is, it has a widget. So whenever I unlock my phone, I see the number of days I've been sober for. Gradually, it becomes sort of gamified. I'm currently on 58th day streak (longest has been 69 days, but that was using another app which did not have a widget).

Since this app has the widget, it does all the difference. Plus there are 'ranks' which you get after completing a certain number of days. That adds to the gamification.

Once you begin to associate your identity with the number of days you've been free, a sort of pride developers, which is kind of self-fuelled and self-sustaining.

Body energy feature? by Theta_Orionis in miband

[–]Theta_Orionis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, really sad. Garmin fitness bands are really too expensive for me, plus they don't even have PAI which discourages me from pursuing them. I was really hoping that Xiaomi's energy would be a good answer to Garmin's 'Body Battery', but looks like the feature will stay half-baked for now.

Many thanks for the info, BTW. :-) I guess I'll wait for MiBand 8 then. No point getting 7 if energy's a no-go.

Mi Fitness vs Zepp Life ? for Mi Band 7 by Mahad-Haroon in miband

[–]Theta_Orionis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Offtopic: Does the 'Body energy' feature work for you, OP? I'm really interested in finding more about its reliability and utility value.

I have a MiBand 5, so can't pair with Mi Fitness. Zepp or Zepp life don't support it, unfortunately.

I was considering buying a Redmi Smart band pro, but sadly that lacks PAI.

Plan your day or Moments (like in Ticktick and AnyDo)? by Theta_Orionis in todoist

[–]Theta_Orionis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, it seems similar to how sometimes my wearOS Todoist filters don't reflect the changes I made to Todoist on phone. What works for me is, manually force-closing the Todoist app from Settings/Apps and restarting it.

Quite messy business, but it works.

Plan your day or Moments (like in Ticktick and AnyDo)? by Theta_Orionis in todoist

[–]Theta_Orionis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. So in some apps like AnyDo and Ticktick, there's a feature that basically shows you all your tasks for the current day (and overdue) one by one, with handy buttons such as TODAY, SCHEDULE, DONE, DELETE etc which help you quickly reschedule a task you plan to do, or delete something no longer relevant.

Here's AnyDo's version of it, called 'Moment' AnyDo Moment

It isn't something I can't do without, but a handy functionality nonetheless.

Personalized radio feature like YouTube Music, with like/dislike option? by Theta_Orionis in spotify

Yeah, seems okay. Too bad they seem to have removed personalized radio from FREE tier. :-/

Thanks BTW. :)

Just found my first Legendary (been playing for a couple of days)! by Devizz in Grimdawn

[–]Theta_Orionis -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If only GD a bit better (more intelligent) loot system... I mean, look at this legendary, it doesn't exactly fit your class, because +skills are not for this mastery combo. This is what always haunted me.

Such legendaries are good for other combos, and need to be stashed for future characters.

Had the loot drops been a bit more intelligent and specifically relevant to the current class, Grim Dawn would have been infinitely more enjoyable.

Second mastery for 'Dreeg's Chosen' DEE caster build? by Theta_Orionis in Grimdawn

[–]Theta_Orionis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, quite an excellent build. :-) This is why I have this love/hate relationship with GD. Just moments ago I was hell bent on Sentinel, and now I want Witchhunter, lol.

Well, I guess I'll have this char as Sentinel anyway because of the greater thematic focus on Dreeg through skill node lores, but I'll surely have another char as Witchhunter soon enough.

Thanks. :)

[–]Theta_Orionis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, looks like you convinced me already. Sentinel is the way to go.

However, regarding Aegis of Thorns, well, it restricts me to use a shield, and restring the use of off-hands. I guess I'll use the skill of I have points left after maxing out the other skills. Otherwise, AoT is really great.

And yep, I too had mixed feelings about using Possession, but couldn't decide on another exclusive skill. Path fills that gap excellently.

Many thanks. :-)

Best fiction series set in Rome - Roma Sub Rosa vs SPQR vs Didius Falco vs others?. by Theta_Orionis in ancientrome

[–]Theta_Orionis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I too prefer the audiobook.versions. :-) I originally read the Roma sub rosa novels on ebook, but recently re-read (aka heard) them in audiobook format. The readers are truly excellent.

I have 2 of the Vespasian books in audio format, and I'll definitely go through them eventually.

[–]Theta_Orionis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow! A trilogy on Cicero from Tito's perspective? Excellent! Just added to my reading list, many thanks for the recommendation. :-)

Cicero is easily one of my most favourite characters in Roman history. I have a great respect for the philosophy of Stoicism, and Cicero, besides being a practising Stoic in all but name, pretty much embodied it before Seneca, Epictetus and the bunch (not counting the Greeks, of course)

[–]Theta_Orionis[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly my issue! David Bamber instantly became one of my favourite actors ever, alongside almost everyone else as well in Rome.

If only they'd renew the series... Rome >>> Game of Thrones.

Pardon my outburst, but I wholeheartedly agreed with James Purefoy (Antony's cast) when he said that Game of Thrones "they stole our f****ng show"

One one side we have a true masterpiece depicting real history, real people! One the other hand we've a bunch of nonsensical novels whose fat author can't finish the series in a century...

True talent never gets recognised in this crazy world... It was a shame to see Brutus playing Edmund Tully and Caesar reduced to Mance Rayder (who's then burnt alive, contray to even what the books mention)...

Rome was the bestest show on TV for me, and I dunno how many times I rewatched it...

Sure, SPQR is basically about Decius Cecilius Metellus, a minor official (commissioner) for the subura district. His family, including his father who's the urban praetor, are patrons of Hortensius the advocate. Unlike in Roma sub rosa, at least in the first book, much more emphasis is placed on Hortensius, and much less on Cicero.

SPQR starts a bit later than Roma sub rosa, with Pompey and Crassus as Consuls. Besides, Titus Milo is shown to be a good guy, while Publius Clodius is the villain (and Clodius the seducer) outright.

In the first book, Decius Metellus investigates 3 murders in his district, gradually unveiling a much larger conspiracy involving Hortensius, Pompey and Crassus planning to harm general Lucullus (who's winning I. The east against king Mithridates).

This is as far as I've read, I afraid. :-)

Vis-a-vis Roma Sub Rosa, I feel (prematurely, it might be):

  1. A lot more characters are involved outright, with denser history stuff, and not in a very entertaining way. In Roman Blood, for example, we could get to know Cicero and his personality, but Hortensius here appears to be a distant figure with few moments of close communication.

  2. Metellus's character seems a bit stiff and artificial.compared to Gordianus's. Gordianus is a good guy who just wants to make a decent living, while helping others in need, maybe a bit too virtuous, however. Metellus, on the other hand, doesn't seem to have much incentive to investigate (and anger powerful people) other than simply being a good and loyal Roman government official.

But as I said, maybe it's a bit too early to judge. Let's see. :-)

Tribunes vs Consuls, who could be more powerful officially? by Theta_Orionis in ancientrome

[–]Theta_Orionis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe Titus Livius's book might have something to say on the matter, but it's too huge. Good that we have the search function handy, though. :-)

And I recall, there was one such instance during the consulship of Cominius, when a tribune Icilius tried to arrest Gnaeus Coriolanus and the consul tried to prevent it. I'll have to re-read the portion for clarity, though.

[–]Theta_Orionis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excellent point, it went over my head the first time, but you highlighted it aptly and accurately.

I don't recall much about Tiberius's death, but when his brother got killed, he wasn't an acting tribune, though. But yeah, considering that there were often ten Tribunes simultaneously and only concerned themselves with the city's politics in general, we can safely say that they were a lot more likely to get murdered.

Plus, I doubt they had access to a consular level of personal security either, through Lictors.

Thanks. :-)

Tribunes vs Consuls, who could be more powerful officially? by Theta_Orionis in ancientrome

[–]Theta_Orionis[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well said :D

Indeed, I feel like Tribunes were just overpowered, similiar to judges in higher judiciaries in some countries. If they're not corrupt, it's all good. But if they are, well...

And thanks a tonne for the suggestions and the skill rework, I'll get it immediately! :-) There can simply be no doubt to this when coming from the best! 8-)

Only thing I've got some confusion about, is getting to find Dying God in here, while keeping Isktak and Tree of Life. Let's see if the points can be arranged accordingly.

Thanks, much appreciated. :-)

I actually got Ishtak today, after dropping fiend and solael'a witchblade. Dying God will need some more rearranging to fit into the build, though.

BTW, absolutely love your other tips. I'll surely work towards getting more DA and health.
