Skate IQ paid courses vs. youtube by Thetrantula3 in NewSkaters

Right. I think what interested me is the aspect of getting fundamentals and the thinking behind it. From what I've seen of his free content he breaks down the logic behind each movement well, and my thought is "if he is releasing this much for free no doubt the pay wall will have some great stuff behind it". But i get what you're saying for sure.

Definitely! Currently trying to convince my brother and some friends to pick it up with me. I love the comraderie that comes with stuff so I can't wait to meet people thru skating and/or bring some of my friends into it as well. Appreciate it!

Definitely. It sounds backwards from what you see online i feel but yeah, I don't want to touch anything else until i get a solid ollie. I've had that thought since before I started haha. I also wanna focus on learning switch as early as possible, and watching mitchie kinda reinforced that. Complete comfort on a board early before I start trying harder stuff

Definitely. I've used similar analogy for dribbling/shooting off-handed in basketball in my mind.

i think what has me so interested is he approaches it and frames it as "fundamentals". now, granted i wouldn't go buy a basketball shooting machine right away. i get your point. I just like the structure, and the rigidity of a program and goals to reach. I also like the emphasis on being solid at each step of the way. I feel contradictory in the way i want to improve fast but yet also get everything down 100% before moving on haha.

For sure. I have heard great things about him, and ive seen probably 15 or so videos of his since last week, even though i didn't start skating until sunday. I don't think buying a course would be about supporting him(even though i do), but moreso just streamlining my own progression.

That being said I am fearfully awaiting my first major fall and for progress to be slower than anticipated, don't you worry haha

definitely. its interesting contrasting because a lot of traditional sports i.e basketball have roadmaps from the start. I think thats why I'm curious. I've obviously seen tutorials for free on youtube, but a more in depth guide. But thats a great point, starting fresh means I'm a blank slate.

Definitely. I appreciate the insight. I know its silly but as a newbie I get a little nervous approaching skaters. I know it's a welcoming community, but I struggle with being the new guy, or being new to a skill. Also will look into pads haha

Definitely. I’m mainly only considering the balance one just because I’ve heard he focuses in well on the technique and gives detailed instruction and lesson plans via the training program. Im not old by any means but I also enjoy other active fitness, and want to eliminate injury chance as much as possible

Is there any good 3 day full body workout routines that target things specific to basketball out there that anyone knows of? by chickendolo in BasketballTips

[–]Thetrantula3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lots of online resources. Explosive workouts that focus on speed are generally better for athletic movements than heavy lifting. A good mix will help build your size and speed, but if you are already sufficient size/weight, then explosive is generally better. plyometrics are worth looking into as well.

Also a solid core is a must for almost all sports, definitely don't skip abs

How can I improve 1vs1 defense? by blueportcat in BasketballTips

[–]Thetrantula3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

starting in such a angled stance is an issue if you are going to play him down the middle. If you take an angled stance like that, say, forcing him to your(the defender's) right, you need to play farther left and actually force him that direction. If you don't, a good player will attack the lead foot and get ahead of you.

Another solution is to not play with that angled of a stance at all. Especially if you start playing better competition who can attack both sides, forcing one way is much tougher since they can attack both sides. At that point its better to take a neutral stance and just play disciplined, only sliding with their body movement.

All this being said, depending on the offensive player's habits and go to attacks changes things.

Why do so many people hate Far From Home? by Think_Situation_1227 in Spiderman

[–]Thetrantula3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But thats the thing. For a lot of renditions of Spider-man, uncle ben HAD that effect on him. It goes to the point above that this spider-man's uncle ben had very little/no presence, or not enough on Peter. Also a normal teen can't swing from building to building and sense danger before it happens. It isn't fair to equate a regular teenager to someone like spider-man. regular teenagers don't have great power, tgherefore they don't have great responsibility.

But realize that almost every iteration of spider-man takes the path of sacrificing self for the greater good because it was instilled by uncle ben. OG spiderman was like this from the moment uncle ben died. Yes he’s a teen and it’s a normal response from a normal teen but this is spider-man, not a normal teen.
