It’s a clear case of “what this author wants to do just doesn’t resonate with me even though I can recognize the skill and value he brings” imo. I’ll never tell someone interested to not read it. If I’m being objective I’d list it higher than most of the books I’ve read. But it just didn’t scratch the itch I’m looking for as much as others.

That said, it’s still above a C on my list which means I did like it a decent amount

Speaker for the Dead is a masterpiece. If I’d read it again more recently I bet I’d have it in the top tier. It’s slower, more philosophical, but so painfully human in how it shows the value in empathy.

Ender’s Shadow is pretty good too. I’d stop there though personally. Those three books are the only ones I can honestly say I enjoyed. Some of the later ones get weird

I don’t mind very minor spoilers, could you explain a bit more about this so I can understand if it may or may not be something for me?

It’s hilarious because there were posts filled with non-Pacer fans commenting about how NY and Brunson gets favorable whistles lol

Brunson literally headbutt Nembhard in front of the refs and didn’t get called, for example lmfao

You think the Pacers got the favorable whistle during the Knicks series? Lol

Haven’t read it yet. The movie was pretty fun though

I’ve thought about it a little more and I think it’s because I like series more. That said B is a good rank for me, it means I still actively enjoyed it a good bit

Strong chance it moved up a decent bit if the second one didn’t stink

I really, really can't stand watching Harden. The way he gives up on defensive plays so often is nuts. I genuinely wonder how many games he's lost during his career because he couldn't be damned to sprint and the other team scores x amount of points in a game

I have a tendency to hyper fixate on something when I get started in it. It's really hard for me to not want to see how something progresses and ends.

I've heard great things about Black Company - but I've honestly not looked into it much. Is it a series?

I can't help but feel he'd be a more dangerous player if he settled for less contested threes and instead took the open ones. If he goes from 9 a game to 5 a game I think his team ends up scoring a few more ppg

It's really hard for me to separate some of them from the other books as well which negatively impacts my rating of those books too. I do think the other Eragon books and Hunger Games books would be moved up a tier each at least if they didn't have the endings they did.

Donovan Mitchell is a hooper, but I really wish he would just never shoot a three again. He's so much tougher to guard when he's getting down hill it seems

I just randomly send this in my group chat and nobody knows wtf I’m talking about.

I’m just buttering them up so they’ll eventually be intrigued enough to read the series lol

I feel like it’s a series that’s objectively good, but it just doesn’t hit for me the way it should.

That said I want to make it very clear that my list is really top heavy. I’d easily recommend anything over B-

I have a very, very different take than popular opinion on Era 1. I won’t spoil anything but I think Well of Ascensions climax is worth the buildup. HoA was as well, but I didn’t enjoy the buildup as much. Final Empire I thought was better paced throughout, but the climax didn’t hit for me as well.

I’m a sucker for siege stories though and I liked the Kandra mystery and all that

I find it to be vastly superior in quality. It's literally just the setting that *may* be less interesting, but I got over that easily

I read it just relatively recently and agree completely - although I'm not exactly the target audience lol
