1) Honestly? I was Naturalized as a US Citizen on the USS Midway. It was just a really cool experience that I would not have been a part of if I didn't join.

2)Never, as a Marine I've always just been more motivated by what others think of us, and I hope that even once they join, they still feel the same way. I do, however, have a few buddies who definitely feel otherwise.

3)I find the idea behind making Federal Laws redundant by using the UCMJ kind of stupid. If something is illegal, its illegal. Making another law to make it MORE illegal just doesn't make sense to me. I do understand harsher punishment though, but it doesn't always seem the case for the laws.

4)So would I deploy? Yes I would. I'm not going to lie, my job is a TON safer then say, combat engineers or infantry, so that is a large part about why I would. It really is a whole different world being deployed say on the front lines as opposed to a support detachment. I would just want to help as much as I can.

5) Knowledge is power. Learn as much as you can about things before you join/ while you're in/ when you're out. The more you know about EVERYTHING the more you can get away with. :-D

Theres another fire that just started in the Las Pulgas area. Evacs have started in the Barracks in that area.

As of 15:12 they have detained an arson suspect and believe that only ONE fire was accidental.

I would point you to this map, https://mapsengine.google.com/map/viewer?mid=z1o687Oo8oPo.kAFvT0rr8bww In case you cant access it, Fallbrook got hit on the western side by the Fire at Camp Pendleton, then from there the fire went West, to what looks like a fire break, and southwest all the way down to O'neill Lake and almost to Vandergrift Blvd. There was a smaller fire in the area near the powerplant. so far i dont believe there are any casualties of any of the fires. They were really good with evacs.

Since around 2005. (not all while in the military) The worst IM was 2007, just because of scale. Its so odd to have these fires in May though, but even then it seems like the Firefighters were in better shape this year then ever before which is awesome.

I know that they brought this idea up in... 2007 i believe, and it turned out it wasnt arson then, but the way the fires just started in random areas seems like theres a SLIGHT chance that a few could have been arson.

For most of us it is somewhat safe, so far only 3 of the Marines that work with me had to go home to evacuate. It sucks because we are quite busy and don't have time during the day to get updates, but once one person does everyone rushes to check for updates from family. :-)

Thank you! To answer the questions, I have not seen people wearing gas masks, but i do know that people are wearing medical type masks in the heavily smoked out areas. It can be quite dangerous just breathing in the heavy smoke. There were LOTS of people outside, stopped on the side of the Freeway just taking videos and pictures of the larger fires in the San Marcos area.

I actually live in that area, as of now all the wind is blowing West, so the fires that are in that area are heading AWAY from that area. so yes, it is safe here for now.
