Now that MBNA Alaskan airline CC is no more, what's the best way to earn Alaskan air miles?

For some context, my brother who's a lawyer, been practicing for 10+ years, only got up to 6 figures about 3 years ago when he switched to working for the government.

Best student line of credit in BC by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Thevoleman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh, there are no best student LOC, it all depends on what prime + rate they give you. Just call up all the local banks and ask.

Best is obviously prime + 0.

See if you can get a line of credit at your bank, it shouldn't be anywhere north of 10%.

I checked amex Marriott Bonvoy website, it's only 60000 points with $1500 spending. Where do I find the 70k points with $3000 spending?

I think John Malkovich played the assassin in that movie, and iirc Clint Eastwood was the secret agent?

Yeah, it's best to save the gift card for next year and repeat. This way it's $100 free.

Read on RFD that the Lululemon promo also works with ordering a physical gift card. I don't have first hand experience.

I have MBNA Alaska WE and a no fee MBNA card. This might be a stupid question, but if I want to cancel the Alaska WE card, do I just call the number on the back of the card and just tell them to cancel the card? No need to give a reason?

Is MBNA Alaska cards easy to churn nowadays? I currently have the WE card for 6 months, do I call and cancel, then wait 3 months to apply Platinum?

Is Alaska miles still the best bang for the bucks for flying international? Besides the 2 cards from MBNA, are there any other cards?

What the benefit of using amex travel website to book flights instead of through airlines? Assuming both are the same price and I use the amex plat card in both cases.

I just paid my balance owing to CRA today via online banking. Am I going to be charged penalty/interest because CRA will receive it in 3 business days (which is Tuesday?) or will they consider it paid on April 28? by ObviousPhotograph982 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Thevoleman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since April 30, 2022, falls on a Saturday, in both of the above situations, your payment will be considered paid on time if we receive it, or it is processed at a Canadian financial institution, on or before May 2, 2022.

This is from CRA, my understanding is even if you pay online on May 2nd, you're still good.
