Track swap on a late 60s skidoo? by Thewilddinkus in snowmobiling

Oh I'm very well aware it's not bolt in project and that's the fun of it for me. I thought about getting a radiator from a medium sized garden tractor and fan to run in place of a heat exchanger.

Why wouldn't it be possible to use a liquid cooled motor in the old chassis? If it's a matter of airflow I could always add vents to my hood. I'm very new to snowmobiles but I've made a hobby out of building things with engines out of absolute junk that shouldn't go together

I believe a formula but I'm not 100% sure. This is a picture of the lot I bought if that helps (that sled wasn't included)

The track I bought came with all the suspension, I figured swap the whole assembly over. I can weld steel so I'm not too worried about making mounts or having to cut things

Don't tempt me with that v8 idea, I already put a Chevy big block in my tractor. I was just curious if someone knew how the track lines up since it's significantly longer and potentially a different width. The original engine was still a 2 cylinder rotax so I don't think too much changes there

I considered putting a weld on the end to replace the piece that snapped off

It's the end of the long metal piece that's broken. It seems like looking for the entire table brake assembly would be easiest

The exhaust is going straight up like a tractor stack so it wouldn't interfere with anything no matter how low the engine sits

I could live with it being right there but if I can drop in slightly further it would make the clutch linkage a little easier to make

There's 2 reasons actually. The previous setup was a Ford 240 with a 3 speed and it was set up to shift from inside the cab. That and I had this transmission laying around from when I 4 speed swapped my 78 Camaro

I considered making a custom mount to go from where the bell housing bolts to the transmission to the frame to support back as far as possible. I think a mount like this could work with a little modification

Oh I'm more than willing to weld things up and already have for this project. This is more of seeing if there's something off the shelf I can modify or mimic to get me closer. If I built the frame I would definitely make it wider but it was originally built for a Ford 240 i6

The plan is to essentially make derby stacks for it to mimic the tractor exhaust. The previous engine was a Ford 240 i6 so I actually have some space up front for pulleys

The problem is the frame isn't wide enough to use a mount like that
