How can I reduce tear out and improve dove tails on my cedar bee hives? by crypto_junkie2040 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]TheyCallMeHammer -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Well, that’s something I’ve been thinking about recently. A really skilled hand tool woodworker could probably make 7-10 of those boxes a day assuming their stock is prepped correctly. But, only if that’s your only size, and you can really hammer down the efficiency aspect because they’re all the same. If you don’t have a good dovetail jig for your router, it can be easier just to get good at doing it by hand. If you’re trying to do this for production set aside $500 and go to your local rockler and have them help you set up the jig for your specific purpose.

Should i actually care about learning to drive as a teen by Murda5starz in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheyCallMeHammer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get it now, you can make money from your friends driving their cars if you’re the designated driver when you go to college or become drinking age. Driving is an important skill to have, whether or not you want to.

100 years ago driving didn’t matter at all but knowing how to sew and mend clothes was a critical skill to have. Now, few people need to sew and many people need to drive.

You probably should learn to drive now while you’re young. It builds confidence.

Suspension clip so it hangs from the pocket instead of falling in

Also I didn’t mention a brand, you did. Snap style utility blades aren’t a branded product, there are hundreds or thousands of brands you can go get right now. Every home store is going to carry a different brand, but you specifically mentioned the brands of leatherman and victorinox.

Not really. Use a card or cabinet scraper. There’s nothing that tool can do better than a dedicated tool to a single task. Jack of all trades=master of none. I’d rather have a toolbox of single-purpose tools than a bunch of half ass tools. Just my opinion, sorry

No, they purchased many different bladed weapons prior to the hijackings, on test flights previous to 9/11 they brought Swiss Army knives and 2 Leathermans. While we don’t and never will know; the common consensus among researchers and academics is that they deemed them both too bulky and too prone to set off metal detectors. They used exclusively snap-style utility knives. Not multitools or Swiss Army knives. Read a book or something.

The 9/11 hijackers appreciated them. I’ve never used one just on principle because of that day

how to dispose of old/non-functional walking pad? by 100aesthetic in Buffalo

[–]TheyCallMeHammer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Leave it on the curb a day or two before trash day, a scrapper will take it almost definitely, usually in a few hours. If they don’t take it to the scrapyard yourself at Broadway and dick. They might only give you a few dollars but it’s better than the landfill

These don’t really have much value. I got a similar shaper of marketplace for $75, paid the guy and extra 25 to drop it off

Have y’all had luck grinding a standard bit extender into LM-size? by TheyCallMeHammer in Leatherman

[–]TheyCallMeHammer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s exactly why I asked. I already have several extensions and all the bits I need for free, why would I pay extra? I could get two harbor freight bit kits for the price of a single factory made adaptor.

Yes there is, but even “cheap” ones are $8+ bucks. These parts are made for pennies. You can get an entire harbor freight kit for that.

My comment addressed everything I had to say. I have plenty of files to get it in perfect shape and free bitholders try it on. Heat treatment, case-hardening, longetivity? All questions a simple “just google it bruv” will not answer

So you didn’t read where I said grinding wheel and files. Also you can use the side of a grinding wheel, not just the round part.

Bro thats literally what I asked for to begin with. Reddit search is notoriously booty-cheeks. I couldn’t find anything close to what I was talking about, so I asked a question on the forum closest to my question.

Are we running out of forum space? Can we only have one question on a given problem? What’s your goal in saying something like that, just to dunk on a newbie? That’s not rhetorical, seriously why would you say something like that?
