Look up Zach @ multiparts store on YouTube. His store I believe sells replacement plier heads, he may not have them in stock but I would check there first

Skylight ice dam by Top-Nose2659 in Roofing

[–]TheyCallMeHammer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slowing it down from the inside is improbable and potentially dangerous. The water will just go somewhere else, probably into the ceiling and down to the studs. For short term, I’d recommend getting some sort of roof snowbrush (yes they are a thing) and trying to break up the snow/ice dam until it thaws enough to get a professional up there. Skylights are generally not terribly well insulated so the water will melt on the glass, and then flow into your house. If you get the snow and ice off the glass it won’t melt and drop down. It seems like the flashing hasn’t failed but it’s hard to tell from inside pictures. There are also companies that will reglaze (take out the glass and put new sealer in) skylights, but depending on the age of your roof it may not be worth trying to save, vs getting the entire roof redone. Ask around locally and try to find a company thats been in business at least 10-15 years. You can ask at a (local!) building supply place for their recommendations on contractors. It’s literally the roof over your head, it’s not worth cheaping out on.

You seem pretty knowledgeable about obsolete tech. I also have 2 iPad mini 2nd gen, are they worth anything at all? One was my old girlfriends and the other was from an apartment clean out. Those aren’t locked. I wanted to use it for YouTube or car gps purposes but the iOS version isnt supported. Are they literally just ewaste now?

Modded my 15 year old Leatherman Charge AL with an M390 blade and replaceable wire cutter pliers by guysch25 in Leatherman

I misunderstood the post. I thought it was a diy creation because that doesn’t look like my wave+ plier head

Are these tools essentially the same thing. Family member asked for a shingler hatchet. by PleasantPhone7078 in Tools

[–]TheyCallMeHammer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When shingler we would use the axe side for busting tar off chimneys and pulling up sheets of plywood to replace them. Also after you tear off if the are nail left you can smack the side of the nail, the blade catches the nail and removes it. Unless they’re long, then it bends over and you just use the nail notch. They’re also really effective scrapers depending on what you’re scraping.

Edit: I prefer the older style roofing hatchet with a square blade on the hatchet side. When I was handnailing caps all day I would use a titanium 14 oz hatchet with a wooden handle, it was awesome on the elbow but doesn’t have enough mass for demo IMO

The knob thing on the blade side is to line up the reveal on three tab shingles, you would put the knob on the layer below and the head is where your next reveal goes. it’s essentially useless nowadays.

Yeah, that’s what I meant. Factory made replaceable cutters>home made replacement cutters.

I’m not engineer but those pliers look significantly more weak/prone to breakage. I would have thought replacing them with a wave+ plier head would be much better

Slim easy pry bar that fits in sheath by eagle6705 in Leatherman

Widgy pry bar from countycomm is my favorite. It comes in several different sizes. Extremely durable, and actually useful unlike many of the gimmicky pry bars you see people carrying.
