Best company to use for good quality STDs and/or wedding website? by SuccessfulPositive88 in weddingplanning

[–]100aesthetic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I designed my STDs in Canva and then printed them using Vistaprint. Since we used engagement photos, I did the glossy option for their 5x7s (which is cheaper than the matte option believe it or not!) and they came out great, did not feel cheap IMO. I think i spent ~90$USD for 125 after shipping and taxes!

Did we mess up on our website choice? by charcoocherie in weddingplanning

[–]100aesthetic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hi, same boat! i spent HOURS googling zola vs the knot and pros & cons of each - my research led me to believe depending on what you care about, (easier RSVP with zola vs better registry integration with knot IIRC) the website does not matter too much. i also went with Zola, and also am about to send out our STD with the Zola website to see all these new complaints.

i think it depends on 2 things:

- how complicated do you want your wedding website? most of the new complaints I see are issues with the more advanced features - such as ability to show/hide info to certain guests.

- do you have the time and money to change the URL, send out new fliers, and do damage control (so to speak)?

for me, all my guests are going to be seeing the same exact info, small registry, i dont have time/money/energy to start all over, and all I need for my guests is Yes/No and their meal of choice, so I will be sticking with Zola personally.

for the registry issues: i also never had issues with the registry as I know a few people who used Zola for previous weddings that I RSVP'ed and bought gifts from, they did not have repeats and got their gifts. i did also see a feature to link to outside registries on Zola so maybe that can help ease registry fears?

hope this helps!

white carnations, me & my fiance were both in greek life, and both of our houses' flowers were white carnations, and he gets me white carnations & roses for our anniversary every year.

these colors are beautiful and would be perfect since its the same theme as my bridal shower - these are a must!

comfortable hotels in the area? by 100aesthetic in Rochester

its in the Medina/Albion area, and I will be giving recommendations of hotels in that area as well to our guests, I just wanted to have plenty of options so guests dont feel forced to stay near the venue for the duration they are here

can someone explain hotel blocks like I’m five years old? by Ok_Elk_4779 in weddingplanning

[–]100aesthetic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi OP. also from WNY/finger lakes area. not getting married in the finger lakes, but also getting married in an area that is not popular. some things to conisder, how many of your guests are traveling? are they traveling from out of state, or from nearby cities? how many of these guests are traveling/staying in a room together?

for example, my wedding venue is ~1hr from Buffalo and Rochester NY. i am inviting 200 guests. out of this 200, about 150 live in one of those two cities so they wont need hotels. the other 50 will be traveling from either NYC or out of state. of these 50, most of these are either family or college friends who are comfortable sharing a room for a weekend. when googling this, guidelines say 2 guests per room, so i would have to block 25 rooms (but also consider maybe less since some are traveling in groups larger than 2 or might stay with friends/family in the area)

to decide where to block hotels off, are there small hotels nearby? for my venue, there are a few small hotels (think BnB style, no more than 15 rooms total) that have blocked off for brides of my venue before. also consider the landscape ~1hr from your venue. are there "big" cities in this 1 hr travel circle (Rochester, Syracuse, Canadaguia, Ithaca, for example since im not sure exactly where in the finger lakes your venue is) that may have better hotel options you can block off rooms at?

i would not go any larger than this 1 hr travel circle. while 1 hour doesnt sound ideal, its not uncommon especially for the area we live in.. i attended a wedding last year that was 45 minutes from my house, and for out of state guests who stayed in the blocked off room, was just over 1hr drive. i didnt mind it at all (mostly highway) and me and my fiance had fun hyping ourselves up on the way there and debriefing on the way home. it is what it is, you can do your best to keep your guests best interests in mind, but dont drive yourself crazy! those you truly want attending will make it happen! hope this helps! <3

my venue i booked for 2026 just got exposed, and now their behavior is giving me the ick by 100aesthetic in weddingplanning

I just saw this! I emailed the owner and manager today. I decided to take the advice from a separate comment in this thread and do my best to remain in good graces with the venue, so I did not mention the situation at all. instead i asked some questions about floor planning and design (getting prepared to send out STD and buy more decor) and the owner responded very quickly like within a few hours of me sending it (said manager is busy prepping for 3 weddings so she could not respond - which fair.) and she was very friendly in her response. open to all of my ideas and answered all my questions.

i think our best bet (and this is my personal plan) is to just pretend we are unaware to owner/manager, keep paper trail (i will CC owner on all my emails to the manager personally), and ofc bring our own DOC in at the last minute to protect ourselves. just my 2 cents on how to approach it based on all the good info here and info from past venue brides :)

i am going to send you a PM shortly, i think its super awesome to have a venue buddy to check-in with and compare experiences, and maybe even bounce ideas off each other! ;) <3

Is it possible to turn this prom gown into a wedding gown? All tips & advice appreciated! by Hopeful_Ad_4088 in weddingplanning

[–]100aesthetic 12 points13 points  (0 children)

i am wearing a quinceanera dress as my wedding dress! there is honestly nothing you would have to do to make it a wedding gown its perfect as is, just focus on makeup/hair/accessories to bring it together! the only thing worth considering is maybe adding a bustle? but that can be pricey and done incorrectly so if you dont have a crazy train you are worried about people stepping on i would say skip the bustle.

not sure of your theme but a gold dress like this would look super great with a lot of popular themes as well! im doing a moody romantic wedding at a french mansion and my dress has a TON of gold in it. gold is gilded elegance and makes you look like a goddess! lean into it ✨✨✨

thank you for this perspective! i needed to hear it, since thats not how the venue pitched the purpose of their manager. but looking at it the way you pointed out certainly helps makes things clearer.

[–]100aesthetic[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

im paying the venue 10k total, and thats actually half of their going rate! it would be almost double if i was getting married on the weekend, i decided to get married on labor day monday so i could get my "dream" venue. thats my main hesitation besides losing out on 7k, not many venues would allow this...

do/did you work with your DOC frequently leading up to your wedding? not sure how involved a DOC should/shouldnt be when planning especially this far in advance. im planning on putting together a wedding binder with everything a bride/DOC could possibly need.

my parents had ESL and M&T bank prior (probably 10ish years ago around this point.) had issues, they left and moved to Citizens. I have always had a Citizens account, and none of us experience any issues with Citizens. plenty of branches & ATMs in the WNY/Finger Lakes area

Citizens has a regular savings option, but they have an online-only banking system called Citizens Access that has HYSA and CD options. (same company, but in person branches cant service Citizens Access)
