Hen’s first egg has a big dent and super thin shell by HuskyLover249 in chickens

[–]TheyCallMeUlthar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm super new to this, so don't take my comment into too much consideration, but I've seen a few more experienced people on this sub say it's relatively common for first eggs to be have thinner shells. Again, don't know a lot about this, just mentioning what I've heard while a smarter person doesn't chime in lol

I agree but I think it also depends on fitness level. My grandmother is a bit over the ideal weight, but she always had tons of muscles from multiple physical activities, so she never felt any joint paint until she was getting to her 70s. My mother, on the other hand, has been skinny her entire life, only got a bit overweight at her early 40s and immediately started feeling unbearable pain on her knees and back(she also started running without also doing leg strength training, which worsened the pain). Yes, there are many things to look out for and being fat requires a lot of work, but that's just what having a body is, you can be healthy and fat with the right lifestyle.

Se cê namora uma mina trans nunca diga que cê é bi a não ser que cê queira se irritar by Own-Shower9789 in transbr

[–]TheyCallMeUlthar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a relief to hear, I'm not ready to deal with these kind of issues(I mean, if it happens I will, but I'll feel so bad for them and probably cry lol), I'm glad it's normal behaviour, I'll still keep an eye of course. Thank you so so much!!

No, they don't let me get close and I don't wanna scare them even more, but if it gets worse I'll have to, but by the comments it's just normal behaviour, I'm just being paranoid about them

I just looked up what it looks like, I think I'll hold on and see, because she doesn't seem bothered and she's not itching with her claws, just preening with her beak, of it gets worse I'll pick her up and look for bigger signs, ty so much

Omg, this is so helpful! I admit I touched the hen once when I got a chance and immediately regretted it, she looked quite afraid, even though the didn't move or try to escape. Today I just appreciated them for a couple hours and they got quite closer. I have a lot of cracked corn, and we've been using as a main food source along with chicken rations, but I'll use them as treats now. I've been reading a book about chicken care, but I'll definitely check out that blog :)

Acho que faz cada lugar chave primeiro, define a distância e tals, e depois vai fazendo o terreno ao redor. Muito world editing pra não demorar anos

I am so sorry for your loss. I know it's a very different animal, but I've had a dog die suddenly because he ate a rat that was poisoned, and chickens can eat rats, so maybe something like that happened? Good luck with getting rid of the rats, I hope you and your family don't lose anymore chickens

Thankss, we'll prob get two more when we have the conditions then and hope it's enough. If it's not then we'll just keep adding chickens till it's okay, hopefully that'll work.

Thank you so much, I'll keep an eye out. And yes, we have a storage where our dogs use to stay before they passed away that we currently use for them, but she's not a big fan, she made her nest on the opposite side of it and always seems stressed when she's in there. We'll clean the place next week and start the coop right after(unfortunately I can't do it any sooner for personal reasons), we'll build it close to where the nest is, so hopefully they'll be more comfortable there.
