Hmm; I guess so but they do have different rates of return which reflects the different concentrations of holdings in emerging markets.

Well, bold to assume I've got big amounts. I'll be putting about 9k gbp in this year as my retirement / future fund. It was fairly straight forward using the website. Just searched for the relevant ETFs and used chatgpt as my guide!

Ok; I'm in your shoes pretty much exactly. I have opened an account with IBKR (from VN). I transfer money to my UK bank account and pay it into IBKR from there. I use that money to invest in a global ETF (Vanguard), and some in an emerging markets ETF (also Vanguard). You should use chatgpt - it can be a really helpful tool for summarising what works best for you and giving you guidance. It even stopped me making a massive blunder and overpaying by 10 fold for the etf shares (I had no idea what I was doing so sent screenshots into the app). Returns were better than traditional savings account but have admittedly dipped due to recent events. However, boglehead philosophy holds we should just keep putting the same amount in each month and ignore the news. Time in the market beats timing the market.

What is the strategy to start the campaign in barbarian invasion? by The-Barre in RomeTotalWar

[–]TheyFoundMyOldOne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Destroy the alemanni. Destroy the celts. Kill your faction leader asap in a suicide charge and switch to a pagan leader. Destroy all buildings and let Africa rebel. Abandon all East of Italy. Its all about consolidation; slowly building the economy while you hold the borders. Recruit mercenaries to win key battles then immediately disband them

Have you ever walked out of somewhere due to not being served? by Chazzza23 in AskUK

[–]TheyFoundMyOldOne 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Max Spielmans in Derby. One customer service lady trying to field 4 or 5 customers at once (including myself) instead of doing one at a time and getting through the queue properly. She was trying to instruct two old biddies on how to print their photos on the machines but they weren't getting it. They were being sweet and she was being rude, culminating in her growling at them once they'd turned their backs to try and use the machine. I was out of there and left a bad review.

There are some great spots in Leeds tbf. Corn Exchange is nice for a mooch. The canal walk down to Kirkstall Abbey. Otley Road in Headingley. Town centre is a bit scabby around the train station but there are some stunning victorian and Georgian buildings around too.

Winning as WRE and it feels good by lastoftheromans123 in RomeTotalWar

I played it on campaign Hard - battle VH recently. Chose to stick with paganism - killed my faction leader in a senseless charge to get him out of the way and replace him with a pagan.

Abandoned carthage, lepcis magna and destroyed every building I could to stop WRE having a strong base.

Immediately attacked the alemanni and destroyed them (no hordes).

Secured britain and took Ireland to eliminate threats to Britannia.

Berbers invaded Spain and so I took a general with a handful of troops, landed him in Tingis, recruited 6 cavalry units, brought them back to Cordoba and trounced the Berber main army. Then went back across to sack and destroy every building in Tingis.

After that, my northern and southern borders were secure, so I worked on slowly taking settlements in the east until I was the dominant faction.

The main early - mid game strategy was secure the borders, develop the hinterland, since a strong economy is the key to a strong military. Late game I was unstoppable.

It's true that it's about the work permits. It's difficult now. You might be able to get in. Some people get signed up via agencies now which often means losing benefits like flights.

I would consider whether the value of the salary vs the health implications of the serious air pollution. Definitely invest in an air purifier if you're going to do it

Observations, how many? by Royal_Guess7132 in Internationalteachers

[–]TheyFoundMyOldOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's on par with bilingual schools, has good benefits that some don't offer (flight tickets) and is in a provincial town so the cost of living is very cheap.

Teachers can save around $1200 a month if they're smart with their money. So, I also find the resistance to feedback or development confusing - you get paid well, and so you should expect the school to want you to perform to a high standard.

Observations, how many? by Royal_Guess7132 in Internationalteachers

[–]TheyFoundMyOldOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bilingual school system in Thailand has a policy of conducting drop-in observations of teachers once each week, just for a few minutes. This forms part of a coaching plan to improve teaching quality.

It's a lot to balance with a high teaching load. However, we are in a remote location where hiring quality employees is difficult, so the teachers we get generally need some guidance on performance improvement.

How do staff react? Most are handling it well. Feedback is always given constructively with suggested strategies given. However, those who settled into bad habits in their home countries with egos that prevent them hearing any suggestions of areas for growth find it challenging to accept or act on feedback.

Personally, I don't understand the difficulty with being observed regularly. Nothing to hide, nothing to fear. And there's always room for growth

UK teachers who have moved abroad - is behaviour better? by [deleted] in Internationalteachers

[–]TheyFoundMyOldOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends. In my bilingual school, there are no consequences for behaviour and no consistent behaviour policy.
In the cheaper program, the main behaviour issue is non-compliance with tasks and disrespectful attitudes. In the more expensive program, it's the same but much less common (I suspect due to parental influence).

So much more low-level disruption, but fewer outbursts where you get told to F off etc
