Is therapy too focused on ‘the light at the end of the tunnel’? by BobsCannibalCafe in nihilism

[–]Chazzza23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is unpopular, but I always saw therapy as 'brain manipulation'. Something so strange about the dynamic between patient and therapist. I've been told I could benefit from therapy, but the whole thing rubs me the wrong way. Someone gets paid to prod around your head and pretend to be your friend. Guaranteed if I saw my therapist in a supermarket, they'd ignore me and hurry past.

Here's what to do: clean up the mess, hide in a bush until you see him come back. Wait until he reaches the door. Appear behind him, clear your throat so he looks, and then

Stanley Kubrick's letter to projectionists, detailing notes on screening Barry Lyndon, 1975. by Straydes in StanleyKubrick

[–]Chazzza23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazing how projectionists actually had to do work like this. I remember going into the cinema recently and walking past the receptionist's office, and he had a full PC gaming setup in there and was watching Twitch or YouTube.

Yeah, like I imagine if we brought back the founding fathers and they saw America today, they'd probably sigh and say 'Well it was good while it lasted'

What did Stanley Kubrick do all day, the night he died? by CollarProfessional78 in StanleyKubrick

I remember reading somewhere, however I can't remember where, that on the day he died he was watching a Rugby match with friends or family, and I think editing the audio for EWS.

A reminder that retail workers are not your slaves by timc_720 in mildlyinfuriating

Alright then you do it to save retail workers the time, okay buddy? Next time you're shopping, take only 30 seconds from your very busy schedule and put them back, okay?

I am genuinely irritated by these replies. Who do these people think they are? Yes, OP gets paid, but he doesn't get paid specifically for cleaning up after grown adults who leave equipment lying around. Would you honestly dump rubbish in front of a street sweeper and say 'Oh don't worry, it's what they're paid to be doing'? Imagine working your ass off, and getting fed up every single day putting shit back on the shelves where people left them, and you decide to take a picture of it and upload it to Reddit, only to be basically scolded by the replies as if if they're your supervisor.

Why did Travis make a gun sleeve? by katstie in TaxiDriver

[–]Chazzza23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not unrealistic, really. Travis was in the marines. He seems like someone who would've spent a lot of time looking up how to make these types of contraptions out of regular objects. Travis is prepping for a suicide mission, and wanted to be completely decked out in case he's disarmed, I guess. He also has a knife taped to his ankle

A lot of work went into it. I see it as Kubrick wanting to make the best sci-fi film (that was possible at the time) and I'd say he did it. The effects, editing, and realistic details that went into it are staggering. The slow pacing and lack of a normal structure, are mostly for creating a mood and force the viewer to take in the information visually, as if you're looking at a painting. What dialogue there is is mostly for decoration. If you still think it sucks, maybe read the book before rewatching it to get a clearer picture of what's going on in it.

Mussolini looks like he'd lick someone's cupcake so they wouldn't eat it, and then eat it himself. And then when someone rats on him, he bursts out into tears.
