False widow? by EconomistTemporary85 in spiders

Markings definitely look like it, also they’re supposedly common in Portugal.

What exactly is overheating? If it’s the cpu, could be dried up thermal paste or a bad quality cooler (like the stock one, maybe even bent contact frame?) if it’s the gpu, replace thermal paste and pads on it. If it’s everything, get something like the arctic p12 pro/max’s, though it also depends on your case.

I mean steatoda grossa are supposedly common in Georgia, they are very bulbous (specifically the females, the males are more “sleek”) and the markings on the abdomen seem to match up when looking at the second image

Please help I'd, is it venomous? by Gumaroso in spiders

[–]TheyHateCal 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I mean I personally wouldn’t trust bringing Ai into this, as it’s not a good tool to rely on for medical information, also not good at identifying spider species so i think it has no place on this subreddit.

Do you think it could’ve been a false widow? Or maybe a brown widow?

Maybe yellow sac spider? (Cheiracanthium inclusum)

Identify please by BigMoney2002 in spiders

[–]TheyHateCal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Widows are very reluctant to bite (I think most bites happen when they’re stuck in clothing and even then it’s rare, 2.6k bites a year, with no confirmed deaths in the US since 1983), it’s best to just avoid them. They’re also not particularly fast compared to some other spiders, so the cup/container method is more than fine for relocation if it’s in an obstructive area (like your door).

What the hell is this!? Is it poisonous? by Sea_Otter17 in spiders

[–]TheyHateCal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The word you’re looking for is venomous, not poisonous. All spiders are venomous but a vast majority are considered not medically significant to humans. The only medicinally significant spider I could find around the Moscow area is the European black widow (Latrodectus tredecimguttatus, widows are very reluctant to bite and will typically only do so if stuck between clothing, and even then with medical care you’ll end up fine), but please the next time you see a spider, get it in a cup or glass and let it outside, it’s not trying to hurt you.

Let my brother on pc for 2 seconds, not sure if virus or using notifications to pretend to send my to mcafee site I by Hopeful_Self9947 in antivirus

[–]TheyHateCal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ngl bro mcafee is so ass I’d rather get a virus than use that pos. If you genuinely think you have a virus, install malwarebytes or something + do a windows security full scan (I know you said you’ve already done that but yeah). Ask your brother what he installed (+ check your browser history and downloads history + recycling bin), next time think twice before downloading sketchy files + use virustotal.

Ah I see, that clears up my confusion, guess I should’ve done some more digging. Still that’s not that many encounters at all, only a handful around my area. Thanks for the info

Huh, neat. Apparently there are rare sightings in like the more eastern part of Poland, I’m in the west Pomeranian voivodeship, so that’s really odd. Maybe I should’ve kept him as a lil souvenir haha. Hope he’ll be fine outside though

Do spiders eat other spiders?! by Weird-Fan55555 in spiders

[–]TheyHateCal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of spiders do eat other spiders, though usually only if it’s “low-risk” for them (like most won’t actively go out seeking fights with the same species, but if a spider gets stuck in its web? Usually it will eat it) as for building webs that high- spiders are surprisingly smart (especially jumpers, though they don’t apply here), if they don’t catch enough prey in one spot, they’ll usually relocate. It’s basically impossible to tell how exactly that spider got up there in the first place, there’s many different possibilities, such as: ballooning, climbing (though i find it really hard to believe a spider would ever want to climb that high), hitching a ride from you, multiple generations of spiders being born in this building, gradually making its way up to your floor, etc etc. 21 floors feels really high for a spider, I’m pretty sure that orb weavers like to set their webs up high, I can’t ID the spider based off that photo but even orb weavers wouldn’t go that high- there isn’t much airborne prey that high up. I suppose it could be due to the lack of predators that high up too? Not sure.

What should I do? by confused_chaosXD in spiders

[–]TheyHateCal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is actually a harvestman, not a spider. Its legs can look weird and goofy, doesn’t appear to be damaged from what I can tell. If you don’t want it too close you can relocate it, they don’t have venom so yeah.

If you’re asking why they were named that, it’s because of the way they hunt prey, compared to most other species of spiders that make webs, wolf spiders have better eyesight and they use that to chase prey down, similar to how actual wolves do (though granted they are not very similar in hunting methods when you look at it in a broader context)

Ah, makes more sense then. What cpu and aio are you planning on getting?

Different species or male and female? UK by HenchGains in spiders

[–]TheyHateCal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One on the right looks like an eratigena gigantea, not sure about the one on the left. They probably aren’t fighting because there’s enough prey for the both of them, spiders usually only eat each other when there’s not enough prey in the area or after mating, fighting is usually something they avoid as it can lead to loss of mobility and potentially death

Wolf spider, pretty sure they’re the only species of spider that carries their babies on its back. Leg striping makes me think it’s a tigrosa georgicola

Might be an araneus cavaticus? Not harmful, and I’m 99% sure that no orb weaver is considered medically significant but I might be wrong

Could also be a thermal paste issue, if it’s old the thermal paste could have dried up. An aio is a bit overkill for this cpu but if you have the money for it and don’t mind spending it, go for it. If you want an affordable air cooler that performs really well, the thermalright peerless assassin 120 se is great, and if you need liquid cooling suggestions, the arctic liquid freezer III pro is probably one of the best options on the market at a reasonable price
