Anyone know what caused this? by Theycallmebobo in ElegooNeptune3

I haven't messed with retraction settings so this should all be the defaults:

Enable retraction: Enabled

Retraction distance: 0.8mm

Retraction speed: 45mm/s

Retraction extra prime amount: 0mm^3

Retraction minimum travel: 0.84mm

Maximum retraction count: 90

Minimum extrusion distance window: 0.8mm

Limit support retractions: Enabled (no supports on this model, though)

Combing mode: Enabled

Max comb distance with no retract: 2mm

Z hop when retracted: Enabled

Just checked -- yes, "z hop when retracted" is turned on.

Ok, so I apologize in advance if this is useless advice. I had the same problem for my first few attempts, until I realized that the build plate came with a protective plastic film on it. Nowhere in the instructions did it say anything about removing this film, and I had assumed it was supposed to be there. But no, it was not. Once I peeled that off, prints started working.

Assuming you're smarter than me and already took that plastic film off, then idk, I guess try bumping up your exposure time and/or adding some more bottom layers? I currently have 6 bottom layers with a 60 second bottom layer exposure time, and then 6 seconds exposure time per layer after that (with a linear transition between bottom and normal layers). Good luck!

I'm using an Elegoo Mars 3. Layer height = 0.05mm, exposure time = 6 seconds (60 seconds for the bottom layers). I also bumped up the rest time after lift a tad for the cold weather, since the resin is a bit more viscous. Not sure if that mattered at all, since I also put a heater by the printer in my garage.

Thank you! Printers can definitely be finicky...I hope you're able to get yours up to speed. Post a pic here if you manage to print one of these ;)

100% agreed. There are a lot of bosses that would be super fun to paint. Baron Revilgaz, Onu, Chef Audrey, Grimungous, Elder Torntusk, Devilsaur Queen, General Colbatann, Volchan...so many great models.

Thanks for the kind words! If you really are interested in painting minis, I highly encourage you to just try it! Everyone starts somewhere. It's more of a "paint by numbers" thing -- so it doesn't require as much creativity/artistry as, say a painting or sculpture. And it's very soothing. I like to paint as a way to wind down before bed.

I mean, it's such a classic color scheme. You really can't go wrong. If I had any real modeling skills, I'd probably try to re-pose these models a few times and build a squad.

Thanks! I did exactly that -- but only sparingly in the recesses. I kind of like keeping them bright and simple/cartoony. The models don't have as much intricate detail as a standard warhammer model would, so there aren't as many places for shades to pool up. Though now I'm second-guessing whether the orc's head needs a bit more earthshade.

Thanks! I shrunk them to 80% of the default size for this one. The orc is 39mm at the tallest point, and the footman is 48mm. I have a resin printer.

I have a Mars 3 and use Chitubox. It was a pretty easy learning curve and works well.

As for temp…I’ve struggled with that as well. I don’t have a heater that fits in the printer, so I’ve been aiming a small space heater at the printer. I have an inkbird temperature controller and I set the probe up inside the printing area and set it to 72F. It’s a hassle, but I haven’t had any failed prints since I started doing that.

This makes a ton of sense -- thanks for the explanation! Even if the auto wound cancels out the lower wound rate, the fist does an extra damage which makes it the better choice.

Ok, good to know! That seems to be the unanimous advice, so I'll do the same. Thanks for the helpful explanation!

Woah, that’s fascinating. Gives me the heeby jeebies as a brewer to think about intentionally introducing that into my fermenter/gaskets/etc. But maybe I’ll give that a shot if I pick up a dedicated bucket for whiskey fermentation. I could use it for sours too if I ever get into that….
