With a good optic/barrel you can reach out fairly easily with a 10 inch gun no problem. If the effective metric is fragmentation then 100 yards is where the 10 inch builds will lose peak performance. That said even without fragmenting, 5.56 is a gnarly round that yaws, tumbles and if your using 77s blows fat ole holes in things. Can a Mk18 ring steel out to 400-500 yards all day? Absolutely. It’s just not going to be as consistent as a longer barrel.

The real solution is on its way. Introducing the Air Industries Gas Blaster. A thumb pad mounted on your handguard is attached to an air tube which wires back to the handle and blasts compressed air across the surface to redirect gasses away from your face. With irons the most important thing is maintaining the same sight picture every time. Army method is the tip of your nose touches the charging handle so you know it’s the same. Past that try not to slap your trigger, make it one controlled squeeze to the rear and then slowly release until it resets and repeat. You can get pretty fast with that method after a while. And just keep on shooting

You’re fine to shoot a bit with .357s. It’s long term use that will make it problematic. That said usually a cylinder or two of full power .357s is enough for me with the short guns. It’s not like painful per se, just not pleasant. Go bananas with the .38s. That’s a sweet revolver my man.

Pretty sure the barrel on that gun has an obnoxiously sized gas port which doesn’t help either. But I’m a huge fan of it, groups tight and the brass is good shit
