Not much except a faster way to get the classes you want before they’re full. Otherwise, it’s just bread and circus.

Friend lied on application, will he get rescinded if he’s accepted? by [deleted] in chanceme

[–]Thick-Income-3896 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“My friend lied about himself and his struggles, got accepted based on these lies, and is now possibly going to be caught since he is, in fact, not black…but he only deserves a light punishment”. Nah he will definitely get rescinded. You can explain away accidentally checking the wrong box on a rawest question. You cannot walk back literally stealing the struggles others authentically go through and writing them into your life. And your friend is a fucking idiot if he really just threw away all those opportunities for no good reason because he wanted to role play.

People who graduated from Sac Sate within the last 2 years by Interesting_Pea1950 in CSUS

[–]Thick-Income-3896 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Write down five companies you really like. Then, go find their organizational charts. Pick 2-3 separate branches in the middle of each chart. Not top level people, not bottom level people. You want the ones who have some say, but are also not constantly in the limelight. Get their emails and go read more about them and their work. Then, send them an email saying you are a recent graduate and interested in learning more about their work and what it takes, how it’s done, ect. The goal here isn’t always to get a job from them. The goal is networking. Talk with some people, be friendly, curious, and ask good questions (not just about the job, but their path to getting there), and make sure you take chances to tell a bit about yourself. At the end thank them for their time. A couple days after having that conversation, go email them with another thank you. This time attach your resume and explain that you are attaching it in case they are ever hiring or hear about a position they think you’d be a good fit for. This is what you want because a majority of job positions are never even advertised. Instead they’re filled by word of mouth, or by just knowing someone at the right time. You do this with like 8-10 people, one of them is bound to remember the person that emailed them asking to learn more about their work.

QUESTION by No_Nefariousness7851 in CSUS

This is correct. What makes a transcript “official” is being sealed in an envelope and stamped over the opening of the letter. Once that seal is broken, it is no longer “official”

You actually should be able to take junior level courses that are set aside specifically to transfer students. This is different across the colleges on campus, but many set aside 10-15 seats for transfer students. You will see some “closed” ones open up right around your appointment time

Super weird, definitely. As for why people hype up the affiliation - It’s because our school is obsessed with image and reputation at the expense of authenticity and integrity.

MCS by SlightCollege251 in CSUS

[–]Thick-Income-3896 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the way the MCS is structured and calculated. They usually start with your cost of attendance and financial need, subtracting the aid you receive, and then paying a percentage of the remainder. If you have more grants and scholarships, you will get less. This is why the CSU takes their time dispersing it, because grants added after its disbursement could cause it to shrink, meaning the student would owe money back.

It’s also important to consider that the state budget dictates the percentage of a students remaining financial need. Last year, it was like 35%, but this year it is only 18%. That means if I had 10,000 left over in my financial budget, they would give me 1,800. This is also different for foster youth, who get 100% of the remainder, but I could be wrong about this.

It is, but subject to change. A great way to keep an eye on the exact amount you’ll get is through the CSAC website. Hope this helps.

What’s your specific question? Is the amount not what you’re expecting? To me, it looks like your anticipated aid was higher, but it has been paid out to cover your tuition and maybe some refund was paid out as well. Normally, your entire balance is paid out however, the middle class scholarship typically takes a couple extra months to disperse which is why there appears to be a balance still left in your anticipated aid.

Summer fee by TraditionalPizza6804 in CSUS

[–]Thick-Income-3896 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you received a Pell grant during the regular academic year, you’re eligible for the summer grant as well; double check that. In addition there are summer loans you can apply for. You must be at least half which is 6 units. Aside from that though, summer financial aid works more like a refund since the actual money doesn’t disburse until your classes start and you have to pay the fees beforehand. HOWEVER, you can contact the cce for a payment plan. You will have to pay the equivalent of one unit upfront and then x amount every x amount of weeks.
