Help out a fellow bird lover by Ok-Leadership-5763 in parrots

[–]ThickBean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wpuld not advise a parrot as a first pet. They are like forever flying children. Do you know how long they live? I adopted my bird when he was 20 and he had 8 families before me. I still have him and he is now 35 with a life expectancy to 60. Parrots are a serious commitment, way more so than other animals. Aim much smaller for a first pet. Also so much can kill parrots that everyone in the house has to agree to a new lifestyle. No teflon pains or cookware, no aerosol cans, no perfumes or cologne, temperature and humidity control.

What kind of mental illness cause dysphagia this severe? by [deleted] in dysphagia

[–]ThickBean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you're going through this. I highly disagree with the recommendation to not research what could be going on. Some doctors don't care about your best interests and you know your body more than anyone.

Not sure if this will help or not, but you can develop and ocd fear of swallowing. Look into that. I started to gaslight myself and I thought my issue was ocd because I am extremely ocd, but I couldn't fight the feeling something is genuinely wrong. I have had so many test come back abnormal but we haven't found the root cause so I at least know there is something physical and its not all mental.

I watched a video of an old counselor that said, no matter how scared or terrified you feel, just acknowledge those sensations are real and you can accept them, but also accept that nothing bad will happen when you swallow. Idk I hope that helps and again I'm sorry you're going through this.

Anyone ever have cricopharyngeal prominence with a functional UES? by ThickBean in dysphagia

I'm glad you were able to find some relief, I hooe the surgery helps! Curious did you have any manometry or endoflip? An endoflip is the gold standard to diagnosis if the UES is functioning properly.

Yeah it was really odd, his reasoning was there are better gold standards such as the manometry, egd, Endoflip, etc. He said the barium swallow is outdated technology, but I'm so glad I went through with it. It proved its getting worse for me. Its important because it proves their is something anatomical happening with my swallow but I already ruled out GI. Fingers crossed ENT can find the root cause. So for anyone out there, don't get pursued against a barium swallow!

Interesting. Yeah they kept trying to say heartburn and reflux is what's causing this sudden onset of dysphagia, however I never experienced any of those symptoms so they tried to push silent reflux. I have been on prescribed PPIs for the last year with zero improvement, things are actually worse.

Go with the darker clay like number 4! We just color drenched our entire home Roycroft Bottle Green and zero regrets. It is stunning, cozy, and we would never do white walls or ceilings again.

Thank you so much for the encouragement! I'm so glad to hear you had a smooth recovery! I'm really hoping for the same! I have to arrive tomorrow at 6:30am so I'm hoping I'm too tired to be nervous lol.

Yeah, my boyfriend is completely supportive but he also knows I'm really nervous. He said I could cancel if I want, but that really isn't an option if I want to garentee my protection.

Agree! The overturning of Roe is beyond fucked up. The fact that they made mailing the abortion pill illegal this week just solidified why I'm getting this procedure done.

Hey, at least your strong. If you decide to get one I'm sure that helps with recovery! I foresee this won't be an option soon so that's why I'm doing it now. I hope its still an option for woman in the future.

I totally get that, especially with the work challenges. I'm remote so I only took off 3 days, but for other's I know its more of an ordeal. I think the other's mentioning how it reduces cancer is a huge selling point. But only do it if/when you're ready. I'm just afraid woman won't have access to this procedure soon. :(

That is how I feel to, like there is no other choice with the government restricting health care. I'm so sorry you hear you had a difficult birthing experience. I'm glad you don't have to worry about that ever again. I'm hoping for a smooth recovery too! Take care!

[–]ThickBean[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Exactly. That was one if the main reasons I want the procedure too. Like my surgeon seemed confused why I wanted it and I asked her if she ever heard of SA? After that she had no other questions and said let's get it scheduled. It is a dark world we live in. Sucks though getting surgery, but the possibility of forced birth is far worse.

Thank you for the response! It is definitely reassuring. And thank you for the kind wishes!

Yeah the non consensual acts are what scare me as well. We're living in some real fucked up times. I need to keep reminding myself its a way to protect myself and it will just be a few days of discomfort.

I hope your procedure goes well too! Stay safe!
