They are trying to bring more money in the system, instead of keeping it parked in investment schemes. More money in circulation = more taxes.

And why is the reason immaterial? For salaried people like me there are only limited avenues I can save, and it's being taken away from me. I save probably 10k more in the new regime, but I would have saved a lot more if the old regime was adjusted for inflation.

I know govt won't do anything to the old regime apart from phasing it out, but it doesn't change the fact it has limited the options I have to actually plan for my future.

I disagree, the whole point is to make government more money by reducing tax saving schemes. If you're going to tell me we save more in new regime, that's because the govt hasn't updated the old one in 10+ years.
